Re: Anyone else have a pollytunnel/greenhouse or veg plot?
Greenhouse, largish one.
Growing turnips, beets, Broad Bean, leeks Leaf beet, Tomatoes, Onions, Garlics, Peppers, Radish, Cabbage, peas, cucumbers, african horned cucumbers, scorzonera, Sharks fin melon, fuki, sea kale, and others I can't remember off hand.
Some of the Tomatoes, some of the peppers and some of the Cucumbers are from my last years saved seed. I was very gratified to see them come up - remains to be seen how true I have been able to keep the varieties. The fuki and sea kale are perennials and I am just growing them from thongs to give them a good start and they will be planted out and will stay outdoors. They are intended to provide early spring and hungry gap greens like rhubarb does. The fuki, in particular, is quite shade tolerant and so can act as fill in for a lot of areas that normally cannot produce food.
The Turnips, peas, beets, Broad Beans, Peppers and the Tomatoes are from heirloom seeds. In general these seeds are amazingly vigorous. They sprout practically instantly and grow quickly. I don't have many of these plants (except the turnips) and so the majority of this years crop will primarily be kept back (rather than eaten) to provide a store of seeds for future use. If you only have six heirloom broadbean seeds you can either eat the output or plant it next year. Realistically there is not enough produce to do both.
About the only saved seed planting that has not yet come up yet is the celeriac - and I still have hope for it as it can take two or three weeks to germinate.
I am starting a lot of plants in the greenhouse this year as I intend to give "No Dig" gardening a go this year and that is how one of the main proponents (Charles Dowding) does it. Everything but carrots and parsnips gets started in the greenhouse and then planted out through a thick mulch on undug beds. Certainly he seems to get good crops - remains to be seen how it works for me.

hi I used to a an allotment but after having a small hart attack I had to give it up that was seven years ago. we moved last year and I've just starting to make a small plot to grow again it's 23ft by 12ft plus I have just finished putting my greenhouse up and its ready to start I know I've missed out on a lot of veg this year but I'm going to see just what I can do I've got toms and cucumbers in the greenhouse I'm going to try some beetroot radishes and little gems in there I have some runner beans in a massive pot. the rest of the ground needs some serious work dong to it before I can use it I plan on having 4 raised beds 8x4 and 1 raised bed 8x2 the small one is just for beans fingers crossed

Re: Anyone else have a pollytunnel/greenhouse or veg plot?
Well done pasty_pete glad to read you are back again. I hope your health sticks with you and all goes well. Raised boxes are great idea too. Saw a youtube clip of a pallet turned on its side and used as beds. Would be great for strawberrys, just fill in the feet with plastic and soil. Simple and maybe not the best looking. I have loads of planting out to do and seeds to sow still.
New idea for potatoes.. Gota large barrel and put good bit of soil in bottom. Dropped some potatoes and covered with soil. As it grows up recover with soil, let it grow and recover. Do this untill reach top. Idea is that the barrel should be filled with potatoes. First time tried this haha. Anyone else done this??

Re: Anyone else have a pollytunnel/greenhouse or veg plot?
I have my poly tunnels, greenhouse and poly covered raised beds all planted, have had some lovely radish from the poly tunnel so far, have a few winter/early varieties of peas and broad beans nearly ready to harvest (wont be a large crop as only planted 8 of each variety as my first attempt at these) my potatoes are doing very well, I am using burlap sacks and have now 'earthed up' for the 3rd and final time, average size of the plant under the soil to the seed is about 3 feet so hoping for a good crop, but will be using burlap sacks in tyres for support for next crop as the sacks on their own are not very sturdy!
got some lovely looking purple top turnip that are getting nice and large
mostly trying square foot gardening this year but I am still undecided if i prefer this way or rows.

Re: Anyone else have a pollytunnel/greenhouse or veg plot?
I started last December with some tomatoes in my windowsill. They died. Then I put some paprika seeds from the kitchen in a container with water. And within two days the seeds sprouted and are big plants now. In the garden I have lettuce, onions, leek, broccoli, carrots, rucula and some types of herbs. I planted grapes last month.
It's the first time I have so many vegetables so I'm very proud that it all grows very well.
This is my prepperfacebookaccount where you can see some of the plants.
