I've decided to add Heinz Tear and Stir soups to my preps. I have been trying them lately - Easy to make, taste ok (not as good as a can), some of which are 1 of your 5 a day, but probably best of all, they save on space when storing.
Obvious disadvantages are shorter shelf life - Not too much of an issue if you rotate and use them.
Slightly more expensive than the equivalent can and lots more expensive than the cheapest can.
Need to use boiling water to dissolve properly - But since my preps include water and heating water, this is ok, I figure, water used to cook veg etc could be used to make up some soup using the pouches so therefore reduce the waste of water.

Usual run to Costco to buy bottled water that is on offer.

Thinking of adding a chocolate product - will see which has the longest shelf life before deciding.

Received my tesco.com order. Thought that attempting to get that load in my cupboards would be impossible and thought forget that and stowed all the tins under the bed. Its pretty amazing how much storage space you have there. Loads of room for more.

Are they a concentrated liquid/paste? If so I might replace my packet soups with them as they'll be consumable straight from the packet if water and/or heat is in short supply..

They are a paste.

Put into a mug and add a little boiled water, stir to dissolve then top up with boiling water to make a full mug.

Definitely better than Cup-a-soup. More nutritional as well.

I have gone and stocked the pantry today with a load of spare cash I made. Damn good timing. Today I was told-after being taken on permanently 2 weeks ago- my job is no longer! Redundant 3times in as many months! you could not make it up.
Top that with the fact that Jan is on 90 days notice, and yesterday my Daughter's chap was told he had two weeks.
Daughter could possibly lose her flat as a result,as bloke brings in the bulk of the cash.

I have told them to move in here if they have to. It will be tight but the property is ours and we can muck in.

As good luck would have it, the polytunnel is producing plenty of salad, the new spuds are coming in and the fowls are laying well. Jan tells me we have a spare hundred quid this month, so I will be out shopping for tinned stuff and what I call 'cooking sauces' to make meals with pasta , rice and spuds etc.
No doubt about it, these are tough times.

I empathize. The shortest full time job I had was for less. Sometimes these employers, all highly experienced, educated business people, are in fact just a bunch of muppets with cotton wool for brains who couldn't organize a result in a place where results can be easily obtained (if ya get my drift  )

Wowsers jansman! Fingers crossed for you and your family. I hope your daughter doesn't lose her flat.

Great to hear your garden is giving you good food and repaying all the effort you put in :D

I certainly do get your drift Nick. As usual, summat will turn up. Also we will NOT go hungry or cold. Like yourself, I have alternative fuel sources. I will also fetch out the Kelly Kettle. We drink a lot of tea, and the electric kettle is a power hog.
It is good to have a fall-back position.
