My EDC

Post by madgaz »

I think it's about time I added a bit of content to this site, rather than just lurking and asking the odd question.

Fortunately, I think I'm among like minded friends :-D If my actual 'friends/colleagues/family' knew what I carried everyday, they would think I was nuts.

This is tailored for me, for my every day carry. I'm never really far from my home or transport, and therefore never really far from more gear.

The bag is a 5.11 grab bag in flat dark earth. I have a Blacksheep morale patch, which pretty much sums me up to most that know me.

In the 3 mag pouches/pockets on the front I have the following,
Pocket 1:
Every day meds such as anti histamines, pain killers and lansoprazole. My ID holder. Black Fox belt cutting knife. Nitrile gloves. Alcohol gel. Pen and pencils.
Pocket 2:
Note book. Diary. Business cards. Credit card survival tool. Mints. Pen. Tissues.
Pocket 3:
Sweat rag. Ear plugs. Jelly beans. Vaseline. Chewing gum. Sting pens (relief and repellent)

In one of the end pockets I dump my phone/keys/bits and bats when I want to empty my pockets.

In the other end pocket I have First Aid gear.
More meds including codein and diazepam. Survival/emergency blanket. Triangular bandage. First field dressing. Mini first aid kit (79p from home bargains ;-) ) More nitrile gloves. Tough cut scissors. Compeed. Antiseptic wipes. Burn gel sachets. Styptic pen. Sterilisation foam/hand wash.

Now onto the main section of the bag.

Shades. Viper tactical gloves. Biscuits/snacks. Pentax binoculars. Tiger balm for those aces and pains :-D Baofeng UV5-RA radio. More nitrile gloves. Cyalumes. Tactical pen. Torch (10 quid from Tesco and it's great) Cable ties. Spare ziplock bags.
In the ditty bag to the left, I have an MS2000 strobe. Webtex sewing kit. The ziplock bag has ear pieces for my radio and phone (Galaxy S3) and a memory stick, which I'm adding important info to gradually. I also have the New Testament. I'm not a religious person as such, but it has personal value to me.
In the coyote brown pouch to the right I have:
Boiled sweets. Berry combo fruit grains. Chewing gum. Water purification tablets. Insulation tape. Micro torch. The shot gun cartridge 'shot pots' have all weather matches in them. And last bit not least, a mini knife and a fire striker.

I almost always have another small first aid kit and a British army issue knife in my pockets.
I also keep 2 x 500ml bottles of water in the bag.

So there we have me in a bag...kinda :-D
Maybe not everybodies bag (pardon the pun haha) but it's what works best for me.
It has taken me a few months to tweak it, but it works.
Some of the stuff will most probably never get used, but it's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it ;-)

Good kit....... Just a couple of points (feel free to tell me to GFY)

I'd add a copy of the scrip for the non-OTC meds...... Both the ones listed are often abused and so the Blue-flashing Lights will take an interest should they stop-and-search you

I can't make out if the main knife is a sub-3 inch slip-joint or not.... Might be worth checking

Did I miss the gaffer tape?? ( Electrician's and Surgical/micropore are also worth having)....ETA Re-reading I now see the 'Lecky tape

Cordage..... Thousands of uses

Good point well presented ref the meds, ta.
Knife is approx 2.25 inch with locking blade :-/
When it comes to knives, they are always well tucked away, so never really to hand. With my zero criminal record and the above taken into consideration, I would hope any Officer would just give me a quiey word in my ear rather than go any further with it. (Although I know that ain't guaranteed at all)

Lecky tape, aka first aid tape :-D The Queen of tape (duct tape being the King of course :-D ) I may add some duct tape at some point.

Cordage. I always have a paracord bracelet and necklace on. I also have a length of paracord (approx 6ft I think) weaved up and attached to my keys.
Another thing I forgot to add, I never leave home without my Tracer watch :-D

Do NOT think woth a zero criminal record a copper will have "A Quiet word in the ear"!!!!

6 years ago I was in a scrape and got arrested. I was a WITNESS. The Swiss Army Knife in my pocket kept me banged up for 23 hours. The SAK is non locking. Do not go there. I never expected that situation. I now have a tiny 'Gentlemans penknife' for EDC.
In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.

Robert Frost.

Covid 19: After that level of weirdness ,any situation is certainly possible.

Ah! Hmm, time to re-evaluate then :-/ I guess I could change it for my Opinel, and remove the locking ring.

Svord....... The |Peasant knife is what I've been looking at. Might need a little work to drop it to sub-3 but its a hell of a beefy knife for a UK-legal EDC
