quality folding shovel recomendations?

Post by Rusty337 »

Just got back from a camping trip up in the scottish highlands and tested out some of my tools while away. the folding shovel i got off the net for 8 quid ended up buckled and beaten and binned afterwards, didnt expect much from it but expected a bit more than that! does anyone know of any good ones that will last time after time?

I do not think there is one to be honest. Back in the day I used to run a pack of terriers for foxing etc. I tried carrying folding shovels to keep the hunting gear to a minimum. I tried 'em all. Nato, German , and US issue. All crap. So in the end I cut the shaft of a 'Ladies' border spade and stuck the plastic handle back on. I still have it for ferretting.

+1 on Poppiesdad's recommendation they are very solid wee shovels & spades, good value with the downside of them being a bit heavier than a standard folder. Good winter car spade/shovel though
you could bash all sorts of stuff with it

Not trying to be funny here, but what do you want to use it for?

Some are better shovels, some are better spades, some better for Pioneering and some for non-Etool use

I don't think that any decent digging tool can be used for axework..... I've seen and handled the Spetznaz and its chopping capability compromises its 'dig-ability'

The best one I've seen (but never got my hands on) is the Swedish one

It has an extra Ali plate that you can fit on to turn it into a snow shovel

Ah, well I have a short handled military shovel as a car tool....If I had to replace it one of thoses mini-spade would be the favorate (the Devon pattern rather then the square one as I think they're better for rough digging)
