Slingshot

Post by eamonprepper18 »

Hi guys, just wondering if you could give me some advice on purchasing a slingshot, ive got £30-40 to spend and am curious as to peoples preferences. Ideally it would need to handle small game and be used in self defense in worst case scenario. Im looking at the Barnett Pro Diablo, any other suggestions?

Cheers

I actually hunt with catapults. The Barnett stuff is (sorry) Crap!
Make your own. Far superior. I use natural forks and flat or Dankung tubes. Use the web and search it out. Wealth of information out there.

For all things slingshot* related I recommend Joerg Sprave....... A totally insane german with a 'thing' for rubber (just don't google german, rubber and video ....OK?) http://www.youtube.com/user/JoergSprave.

He builds normal ones as well as the mad stuff.

He uses Thera-band as his source of rubbers and shoots lead balls and ball-bearings.......Amongst other things

* I've been involved in re-enactment for so long, Catapult only means one thing to me...... And you can't stick one of those in your pocket

Good posts. I've always been a shooter (airgun and SG) but remember having a Barnet Blackwidow catapult in my youth. The wrist brace was the mutts! But it looks out dated now.

I've never really considered these for hunting but now remember they were originally marketed for vermin control.

Making one seems like a challenge :D

I find them poorly balanced. When you have shot a natural, that really fits your hand, you would see. The Barnetts do the job, but not(IMO) well. Perhaps it was harsh of me to write them off like that, but... They do not lend themselves to instinctive shooting. I have always had catapults. My late Dad always had one with him, and put a good few dinners on the table over the years. So I learned a thing or two from him, and take my fair share of game. Pigeons especially from the holding

Or you could just get a cheap metal one from dealextreme. With good tube bands they can still do damage and are great fun. Very portable.

I've got one from a guy called John Webb. He has some great YouTube videos, search for hunter catapults.
