it's a wound disinfectant , years ago it was used in surgery , not sure if they still use it .A wound that needs stitches would be swabbed with iodene tinture before stitching . My mother used to put it on grazes ,cuts etc. as kids we called it monkey blood .jono.mathew wrote:What would Iodene Tincture be used for?EddieEnzyme wrote:Myself, I keep a good supply of Various Painkillers, Immodium, Antihistamines, Dressings etc.
One that I don't hear about so often though is Iodene Tincture - an excellent disinfectant/antiseptic, readily available (cheaply) from a certain rainforest named online "store."
She also used purple stuff called gingen violet (spelling ?) which was also good but i can't seem to find it these days

Thanks, I will stock it. I have also heard that fresh honey is good to put on cuts/wounds to help avoid infection. You can buy a natural antibiotic which contains bee hive. Not sure if it works though. Also been thinking recently that a packet of celox or quick clot or something similar for big accidents wouldn't go amiss.

Re: What medicines to store?
A few weeks ago I discovered a goldmine of old prescriptions and whatnot in the spare room. After checking the dates most of them were OK so I managed to bump the first aid kit up a bit to include:
Shedloads of Ibuprofen & Paracetamol
Diclofenac (sp?) I know some people have a bad reaction to this stuff but it's a v. good painkiller if you're not adverse to it
Tramadol (Not one I'd really recommend but could be very handy if someone had a really bad injury)
Antihistimine tablets (A few different types)
Couple of Beechams sachets (Man-flu is a terrible affliction at the best of times, let alone when you're trying to stop the zombies)
Surgical tape
Scissors
Alcohol wipes
Alcohol hand gel
Those pads you get for placing on burns, can't remember what they're called
Plasters
2x bandages
Eye patch
I'm sure there's some other stuff too, but I'm too tired to remember at the mo. It's all bundled into a tiny wee pouch about the size of a wallet as well. I bought it for about £3 from the rainforest-named online store mentioned earlier and came with most of the stuff I've listed.

A good plan, violently executed now, is better than a perfect plan next week./
