Anyone ever thought of buying an island

I always wanted an island to run a paintball/airsoft site on. Would also be a great place to build your end if the world fortress. If only

I suppose that for peace and security having a whopping great moat around your bit of land does sound ideal. It does however, impose some quite serious cost implications and can make day to day living pre SHTF more time consuming and generally akward. I also suppose it rules out many bug out plans as once you're there you will be pretty much in the same situation as the people viewing the moat from the other side.
Several years ago now I worked on an island in the lake district and of course absolutly everything had to come over the water. Imagine for a moment in the summer just popping out in the boat to nip over to the mainland for a pint of milk and then imagine the same thing in mid january with freezing rain howling down. Sort of looses it glamour in some respects.
