Very sad to have lost my gerber multi tool what multi tool would you all recommend I replace it with

I recently bought my first quality MT (had a few cheap and crappy ones in the past)
I went with a SOG Powerlock 62, I'm going to be swapping out the knife blade for something harmless (wire-stripper probably) to make it street-legal.
I like the fact that they're the only one of the main makers that seem to encourage user modifications, do that to a Leatherman and your warranty goes straight out the window.

The 'V' cutter is just a fantastic idea as is the 1/4 inch socket driver (if you buy a standard Socket-to-Hex adapter you can use any Hex screwdriver bits, including the oddities like Torx and security fittings)
Its also built like a tank and once you get a grip on something with the pliers it stays grabbed.

Amazon sometimes has great deals if you don't mind waiting for one (my tool was half price when I pulled the trigger on it)

I have a couple of Leatherman jobbies. Good , but heavy. Go with the Swiss Army Knife. Great kit!

Go with Leatherman every day of the week, Just sent my 20 year old one back for repair as I had snapped the file thru my own hamfistedness, and courtesy of the lifetime warranty (25 year ?) now own a very nice Blast .

I second the SAK, as I love my Swiss Army Knife but would not class it as a multitool which the OP wanted



Edit: Just looked at the SOG mentioned above , I want one it looks like it would give leatherman a run for the money and a lifetime warranty as well, very good reviews on Amazon.

As a heads up make sure the blade is sub 3" and non locking if you are going to EDC it, I had to modify (bodge ) my Leatherman so the blade did not lock

I really want pliers on the tool so would rule out the Swiss Army knife some good suggestions considering carefully at the moment

The best multi tool by a country mile is the Victorinox Swisstool or Swisstool X. Big, strong and reliable.
If you want something a bit lighter, my second choice would be a Leatherman Wave.

I find the product description amusing, but I suppose the guys who maintain the website think that most of their shoppers don't know what a multi-tool is..... I'd be insulted by that assumption


Good price though (Amazon have them for the same money ATM, and all the Leatherman range seem to be marked down too)

All other things being equal, I'd buy from Tescos..... If they get enough sales they might start stocking good stuff more often.


Still prefer my 46 quids worth of SOG though
