Hi All, New here,
My question is what are you prepping for, when do you think it's going to happen, and what do you think are the best things to do now?
Only fair that I give an answer too: I foresee a worsening polarisation of society between those that have and those that don't until the point where the global economy maxes out and intra-national unrest kicks off; gradual rather than sudden. I believe the best things to do are to prep robust economies at a local level so that, say for instance, food production and security isn't trying to be done on an individual basis.
Thoughts?
What do you think is going to happen and when?

Hello and welcome to the Forum.
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

Welcome
My answers, My question is what are you prepping for - nothing that specific.
When do you think it's going to happen - well you have to keep an ear to the ground don't you, but don't panic and shut yourself in till Xmas or put on the biohazard suit at the first alert.
And what do you think are the best things to do now? Whatever you can whilst still retaining something of a normal existence, too much and you are ruining your life not improving your chances
I have a kind of laid back nature for the most part and being prepared for shortages/bad weather/that kind of thing is something that serves me well, I am by no means convinced that the Zombies are coming nor that any major S is going to HTF in my neck of the woods, but you don't live next to Devonport dockyard and not entertain the notion that it might, indeed they test the sirens frequently, but it's not what we half expect that takes us by surprise is it?

I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.
Re: What do you think is going to happen and when?
For me it's anything really - just know something bad is coming / happening, not sure what or how bad it will get.
I do think that the main threat I can see is we are heading to major civil unrest due to the world economy and expect it to crash at somepoint (not sure when) which to me is the most likely issue as we have marginalised the police and armed forces to the point where they will struggle so looting and rioting will occur -the economy failing and rule of law eroded will mean power cuts, food shortages etc as it becomes more expensive like the 70s, just not sure how long for and how bad it will get.
My preps started with thinking and preparing to be snowed in for a fortnight, then added in stuff in case we lost power/gas intermittently, next was civil unrest and have been building up from there.
You can get yourself in a panic thinking of everything that could happen, at which point stop, take a breath and concentrate on what really counts - remember you need a normal life too, dont get me wrong prepping is important to me but I need my normal family life too.
For me I tend to prepare for known things that have happened and will adapt and improvise depending on the situation.
Most people are not millionaires and build up slowly and surely when funds allow (me too!).
The key thing is you have realised the need and have started, I don't think I will ever be prepared for everything but the essentials are there (shelter, water, food, heat, security) and I build up on each of these as I go.

Re: What do you think is going to happen and when?
I think Western economies are going to crash, especially the UK's. As an ex trader and investor I see many reasons for this, but basically our Keynesian based economies are doomed to fail (imho). With this will come growing social unrest - when benefits are no longer paid out, when the supermarket shelves are empty, when many of the services and comforts that we have come to take for granted simply stop, when the fiat currency people have scrimped and saved becomes worthless, and when the lights go out, there will be legions of confused, desperate people who are dependent on having everything done for them by nanny states and who will suddenly realise that life as they know it has ceased to exist.
Add to the mix the growing irrelevance of our political elite and system of 'democracy', the ever-tightening grip on our rights and freedoms, the militarisation of police and the burgeoning corporatocracy (fascism, basically) that is filling the vacuum left by hamstrung politicians (aka traitors), unlawful wars against sovereign nations (think Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Libya - to keep us safe, you understand), and the failed multicultural experiment where we now have 'communities' pitted against one another, and I think you have a recipe for mass disillusionment, anger, unrest and lawlessness.
And that's when you'll find me (or not!) tucked away somewhere living off my wits, with gold and silver in my pockets for bartering and buying the things I need.
Just my two penn'orth.

Re: What do you think is going to happen and when?
Bad global warming created weather pushing up the cost of foods, energy prices rising at an astonishing rate over the coming 5 - 10 years, a few more economic bubbles bursting and erratic activity in the economy. Possibly a few more extreme weather events and some minor disruption to power and the food / commodities / goods supply chain.
Result: Find ways to live cheaper (I received a second sprouter today and my pumpkin plants are doing very well), have some tins and dry goods put aside and a few methods to make heat for some domestic heating, cooking and hot water in case.
As far as when.... Its hard to say, so slowly and surely increase the stuff I have and hope for the best and prepare for the worst.
