Shutters (Like on the continent)

Post by JBird »

Has anyone ever thought about getting these installed? Or even had these installed?

These are used a lot on the continent for keeping rooms cool during the hot weather... But could be brilliant security for bugging in?

The down side is that it could make you look a target in either a SHTF scenario (or even before hand) "They have something to hide"..

i have thought about this , maybe making them and just fitting drop on hangers for them in to the wall .

not very visable from a short distance and stash the screens in the garage or shed . as for securing them in place a simple padlock should do it . maybe same thing for the doors .
i should all so mention they need to be made of metal as wood would be next to useless .

I like the thought of removable grills. My only issue is storage (or lack of it!) Hence looking at built in.

Yes would definitely have to be steel (or at a push alloy)

I think installing the continental ones would be a right pain in the rear end once the window is put in, as they seam to slide into what appears to be the cavity (I'm not sure how they work).

I suppose if your looking to buy a new build (or be even more hardcore and build your own), it would make it a lot easier to install as part of the building phase.

i was thinking more just the pull shut ones . drill a hole and cement in the hangers . then fit IF and when you ever need to . rather than everyday use .

I wish we used those continental shutters in this country! I'm sure they'd make you a target over here, however, so I'm not even going to try it ...

someone in our village had a huge boat on there driveway, when ever that was gone you knew they was away for a week or so, they also had electric shutters on there bungalow, looked very much like the ones you see on shop windows, they also had the doors done aswell, never heard of them getting broken into and 10 years on the new people still have them and use them :-) if i could afford i would definately have them fitted

looked very similar to these ones

i was thinking of getting wood sheets gut to the window or door size large bolt through the middle then plank of wood on inside to put bolt through then tighten up to secure.
