Best preppin' tip. Don't announce it.

Hi all,

I've been into prepping for over a year now but still have some way to go. I spend a lot of time watching YouTube videos on the subject and to be honest, most of the videos are more interesting than watching the TV.
However, as much as I enjoy getting other ideas from fellow preppers, bushcraftsmen and survivalists, it does seem a tad silly to announce it to the world that you have everything to hand for WTSHTF. There will be loads of local people who know who and where you are and these people will probably have been studying your videos in depth. These people may not be preppers themselves and might just find your uploads interesting. But rest assured that when it all eventually goes belly up, these people will know exactly where to find you and all the nice kit & food stores that you kindly shared with them during the good old days.
This might sound a bit paranoid but aren't we all a bit para' anyway

I for one don't think the good times will last. I, like a lot of you out there can feel a change coming. Something is brewing and will hit home in the not too distant future. For me personally I believe that a financial meltdown followed by a complete breakdown of civilized society will very likely occur. And when it happens I just want to be able to quietly slip away with my family to a quiet, remote BOL. Sod cars and trucks, I'm planning on using mountain bikes. it might take an age to get where I want to be but at least me and mine will get there as opposed to being stuck in mile upon mile of traffic!

And that's the point. If everyone knows who and where you are because of your YouTube videos, you face a significant threat from any number of directions unless you manage to BO ahead of the trouble.
Now don't get me wrong. I'm very grateful to all the guys on YouTube who have taken the time to share their efforts with all of us, and I sincerely hope they manage to evade the hungry hoards when the time comes. I just hope that part of their prepping has taken this very real scenario into account?

So to all of you guys and gals out their who are sharing info with us, I thank you. I just hope that in sharing it with us you are not putting yourselves and your families in any danger.

I'll finish with this... When the fires have burnt themselves out and the dusts have settled upon the ground, preppers will inherit the Earth

One thing for certain it won't be quite what anyone expects, but humans are adaptable and that's why we're still here, the only thing I am sure about is there are few who could do it alone, collaboration is key.

There will be plenty of remote places left because quite a lot of folks simply won't survive I'm sorry to say. But collaboration is indeed the key. Laying low away from the masses is only for the first days & weeks. It stands to reason that we will need to link up into larger groups eventually. Safety in numbers plus a large skill base will be essential.

I kinda agree with you. But there's a part of me that thinks we need a shake up. We've become too lazy and complacent as a society. This country ain't the worst place to live, but the system is inherently corrupt and greedy. It's also far too entrenched to replace with something better as things stand.
If it all falls apart maybe a few good men and women will step up to rebuild something fairer.

I think the complacency is only among the usual trusting souls who are far more optimistic than the rest of us. It only takes a series of hardships and knock-backs to prime the average responsible souls among us into taking a bit more care and maybe working a bit harder towards some sort of safe future.

Politics says keep the masses happy with placebo statements.
Behind politics is hard reality and Intelligence that says flap quietly and pull out all the stops to protect us.

As far as greed etc is concerned there are enough stops and checks in place...that's how we get to hear about them. They are not the only story. Bravery and hard work never seem to make the headlines but they are there if you choose to look.

One of those videos explained the same problem, his reason for continuing his channel, the more people out there that can support themselves means fewer hordes out after him & his group.
Many videos have 2000+ views, some as high as 156,479 views (youtubed prepper tips just for view counts), that's a substantial number of people, albeit globally. But if you're ready for the upcoming SHTF you have better odds of surviving and able, hopefully, to sustain yourself and probably your family/friends.
This reduces both the number of desperate thieving people but also opens up other viable targets.
Tom & Barbara Good in London's suburbia will have their hands full as people gather around them instead of wandering off into the trees where YoutubePrepper1337 has bugged out to his cozy little log cabin in some far flung forest.

I don't doubt for a second the figures you have quoted, it would be interesting to know how many of those thousands will have written down the details of the preppers in the videos or come a post SHTF event when their computors are kaput and they will be too busy trying to feed themselves to remember vague details they once saw on youtube. So in that context I don't think the posters of those videos are actually putting themselves in a great deal of potential trouble.
Saying that I do tend to agree with the OP that it's best to keep things low key. Easy enough to do pre event , less so post event. If it ever came to it I'd personally try to "blend in" with the unprepped populace. No driving round when everyone elses car is a one ton garden ornament, minimal lights in the house , and so on. I've mentioned in another post somewhere that it may even be worth getting clothes that are too large to make it look as if you are losing weight rather than remaining reasonably well fed.
