Doesn't that involve drilling a hole through the middle of the glass?

Depends on the type of window. Sash windows can just be slid up or down. Casement windows would require the glass removing (or breaking) or perhaps better still putting the bolts through the frame.

from what i can see of those in the picture , they don`t look very strong and as from a opsec stand point they will let Too much light out even with decent thick curtains i doubt they`d stand up to a much closer inspection . the out side ones ,to me say `to much hard work ` and they would move on to some one else .
i know they imply some thing worth having inside but its if they have the means to get into your house

I take it you don't know how they are fitted then. I perfur them to roller shutters, shutters have more weak points than them.

When I lived in Germany, our flat had wooden shutters ( roller blinds on the outside of the glass) and they were helpful for privacy etc but would never have withstood an all-out attack. Metal would be better but the ones I have seen here are drawn down from a box on the outside. It would be better if, like the wooden ones we had, they came from a box built in to the inside of the window as part of the window space...much harder to mess with from outside. This box also supported the tracks for the curtains below...a bit like a pelmet.

we had metal shutters covering our large front windows when we lived in France, made the rooms very cool downstairs and protected them from bad weather in the winter, the only problem we found they were electric and use to get a few power cuts

if you check on the grills they are LPS 1175 standard which means they can be used in banks police stations etc posted a link for, saves you guessing how strong they are from a picture

Fantastic grills , just smash the glass attach to back of car and rip them out the road , or better still , pop on the roof , lift the tiles and climb in to the attic and then the house , grill ,boards, shutters, meh will stop them for a bit then they are in , with you ,with your escape blocked by your endeavours. or just torch the placed with you in it .

Remember nothing ,NOTHING , will stop them , just slow them down .
