Hi I have been a long time prepper and lurker of this forum and have finally decided to take the plunge and become an active member of this online community.
firstly a few bits about myself. I have been prepping in one way or another all my life really.
The main reasons I prep are for accidents such as a burst water pipe, power cuts, and severe weather like heavy snow fall or high winds.
as a single guy with no children and very few ties my prepping is really all about other people I prep so I can look after other people in case something does go wrong in the world one day.
I know I will never be able to feed, water and clothe everyone but I will give until I can not give no more much to the annoyance of my loved ones.
I am mainly hear to learn and to understand why other people prep and what they get out of it.
Sorry if I rambled a bit X

Hello and welcome to the Forum.
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.
Re: Just wanted to say hello
Welcome, tolerance!
I'm left wondering about your loved ones, they must be a personal connection for you, surely .... do you prep for them as well? Sounds interesting!

Thank you for the welcome...
Yes I do prep for my family and loved ones but I put others before myself with my prepping. I would not be able just to sit indoors with loads of food and water if something happened knowing others where going with out.
I guess its partly my naivety they get annoyed with me because if something did happen I obviously would not be able just go around handing out food and water parcels as I would probably be mugged as soon as I step a foot outdoors.
I would just have to try and help others which is kind of strange considering I am a Misanthropist but this world takes all sorts of preppers I guess
maybe when the time comes I will not be able to help anyone things maybe to far gone and people maybe purely about greed in witch case I guess I will have to think about number one but hopefully things never get that bad..
hope this gave you some kind of insight into my thoughts on my prepping all in all I am just pretty much a walk over I need to find a prepping partner who can be the bad cop so it will even itself a bit

??? I'm reminded of the instructions on oxygen masks on planes, to those who have children in their care: it goes something like "please take care of your own mask before attending to the masks of your children" - because if you pass out from lack of oxygen, your children will have no one to help them!tolerance wrote: I put others before myself with my prepping
I think you're in desperate need of a bad cophope this gave you some kind of insight into my thoughts on my prepping all in all I am just pretty much a walk over I need to find a prepping partner who can be the bad cop so it will even itself a bit
Given the moniker, and the visual of the green CND sign, I think I know where you're coming from, and thats a place I've been too - but even while I was there in my head all the time, I lived in the uber-capitalist world of the City of London, and I was always challenged to think by the people I met there. Being a walkover isn't going to cut it, if push comes to shove, but for your sake - well, for all our sakes - I hope it never does.
I can remember the first challenge I ever got, from a talk where I worked (a national charity on the edge of the city, as I was slowly migrating away from it) - where the guy giving the talk said something like "if everyone looked after themselves, there'd be no need for charity". Uproar! And of course, particularly in the client group of that particular charity, not everyone *could* look after themselves - but its quite a thought experiment, all the same.

Definitely not putting you down by the way, I'm prepping for my sister and her kids, myself.

Hi and welcome
Well you learn something new every day
I have just discovered that I am a misanthropist and not a natural loner that dislikes the human race like I thought (yeap I had to look it up) So thank you for that. But like you I care for people and have worked in the care industry for 30+ years. As Arzosah say's the first rule of care is to look after yourself so as long as you do that you can carry on looking after others

You are not wrong I am a huge supporter of personal responsibility and I do believe in general we all depend on the Government and local councils to much.Arzosah wrote:??? I guess I am just watching my back really because if something did happen and people wanted my preps what would I do...
I would sooner have something to give. Than nothing at all if a raging mob of anarchists knocked on my door
I only ever went to one Karate lesson as well so I do not think trying to be Jackie Chan will help either by fighting them like a lot of people seem to think they will be able to do
all I know is if anything does happen and you find yourself in Kent come round for a cuppa...
now tea bags are the one thing I have enough for everyone for....
