Just starting out

Post by just_in_case »

Hi All,

I'm a 30 Year old married woman living in Essex, and have slowly been becoming aware of how little I know, and how completely dependent I am on other people/numerous things; from technology that I do not understand to the food in the supermarket and it's origin, which I know very little about. I've read a lot of information on this forum which has been really interesting and beneficial and, no matter what the situation, I think being more prepared for a diverse range of situations can only be a good thing. Let's face it - learning to be more self efficient and developing new skills is fun. So that's me - I'm a complete novice so look forward to talking to, and learning from lots of you. :D

p.s. I'm lucky as my Hubby is on board too, just perhaps a little less enthusiastic/motivated than I am.

Hi there, welcome! Thats the plan, isn't it, to take back more control over your life - what skills are you going to work on first?

We've just moved, and now have a nice big garden and some chickens. I've been reading up on growing your own vegetables from heirloom seeds and then seed collecting. I love the idea of growing my own veg but am terribly impatient! Of course - it would be the WORST time of year to start a vegetable patch as most things are planted between Feb and May but never mind!

Do you have any tips for a newbie?

Ha ha! Too right. No idea how he'd react to a shortage of loo roll. As for the razor blades - he'd use it as an excuse not to shave.
