This is just my opinion but perhaps a trip to your local army surplus store is a better option than Go Outdoors. Go Outdoors can be a bit glamping and I think you'll find some more robust bits of kit in the surplus store.
I've looked for a surplus store near me and I cant find one at all. I agree on the Go Outdoors stuff not being so robust, even as a relative novice I thought some of it seemed a bit flimsy.

Grats and welcome to the proper preppers club! I'm sure you won't regret anything you buy, because you'll find the tools and stuff handy to have in non-emergency situations as well as for just-in-case.

cheers, 2RM.
Thanks 2RM, couldn't agree more! I think that's one of the great things about prepping, it's all useful, worthwhile stuff that one day will be used, be it in a shtf situation or just through rotation. No waste :)

Off topic, I just realised my last post was my first unmodded post, finally earned my first stripe! I must officially be a prepper now! :D

TopSod: I use Endicot's for nearly all my surplus buying (http://www.endicotts.co.uk/ ), they do mail-order and the guy who you talk to on the phone tends to be the guy who picks your stuff out. Plus they grade a lot more stringently then almost anywhere I've even heard of and tend to pick from the top end for remote sales.

For instance, I've bought several sets of BCH from them. Last time I told them I don't mind scuffs to the leather but I'd like the least wear to the sole possible for a Grade 1, they sold me two pairs for about 40 notes delivered.... One pair were barely broken-in with very little wear but the toes were really badly scarred up (looked like someone had tried to climb a wall like they were wearing crampons), still sound boots though.

I got a couple of '58 pattern waterbottles, asked for Grade 3/2 and paid a quid each..... Clean inside but scuffed to hell and back (can anyone say "Canteen football"? ), its amazing what a hot-air gun can do ;)

Endicotts get my vote too. Local to me, well worth a visit in person or online.

This week I'm topping up the log store and ordering 600kg of coal in. All torches have had battery checks and changes. Fire extinguishers checked. Winter bags checked and packed for the vehicles. Water jerry cans(army ones) rotated and freshened up as well as diesel and petrol jerrys rotated. Spun up the Honda genny for a bit. Doing a stock check and rotation on the food stores soo keeping busy :)

Ordered 24L of ethanol for winter cooking and heating in case of powercuts etc (gonna do a winter on alcohol this year rather than one on gas cylinders!) . Also ordered a load from Tesco including more cheap tins of low value foods to add to my stock, and some thin bleach to help me kill off the growth of wood rot bacteria / mould / fungus or whatever it is that seems to have got itself into all the food in my fridge and has spoiled it.
Seriously, my spring greens tasted like a rotten log. It was foul.

What Preps are you doing this week

Just got home from work and my neighbour had taken delivery of my first prepping order, all nicely brown boxed. There was a lot more than I was expecting! Double to be precise! Amazon kindly messed my order up and sent me the same order twice, both with the same order number, and only charged me once :D

Excellent start to my non perishable prepping inventory!

After having taken my tescos delivery. It may take a few more shopping loads before i am confident I have 3 months worth of food, but I'm getting there.
