my main hunting weapon currently is 1 of my air rifles, although i do enjoy shooting shotguns... i also have a £600 compound bow and an expensive compound crossbow and recurve crossbow, sadly its illegal to hunt with these though, but 1 of the land owners where i shoot lets me set up targets for if i want to have a play with them instead of the rifles

Guns are an emotive subject, it's difficult to explain to "townies" that they are just tools, they see them as killing machines and you can't blame them as in a city envirnoment, they probably are. I don't shoot but 1 of my sons is a qualified gamekeeper, he has a .22 rifle and 343 rifle & shotgun. In a life threating situation I honestly do not know if any of us could shoot a human being, I hope we never find out. I admit that just knowing they are there is of comfort.
On a more personal level, I bought a catapult and much to my son's amusement, have been practicing with that.

I don't blame them, guns are killing machines. That is the job that they are the tool for.

However, anyone who says "Guns kill people" is missing the main point.
As for "Guns make me nervious"....... How? Is it going to jump up off the table, aim itself at you and blow you away?

Dick-heads kill people
Thugs kill people
A gun is just a device for throwing metal

That is so truly the crux of the issue, there are so many things which are dangerous in the wrong hands, from a razor blade to an entire country, remember utility knives brought the twin towers down, all weapons even nuclear ones have the two purposes of defence and attack, for my part I'm only interested in the community and fun of target shooting, and as someone partial to meat if I get invited to shoot things I can eat I may well do it, but it would be again for the company and enjoyment of the sport.
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

I understand where alot of people are coming from here, however if SHTF people would most likey loot after a while. If that happened i would have no problem shooting another person to defend myself or my home/ Bug Out Shelter. Its survival of the fittest and i plan to be fitter than most. As for weapons a handgun such as a glock would prove very useful and i hope to apply for one soon. I am also considering a civillian variant of the M16/AR15 rifle for Hunting/ Defence. I have a compound bow ATM with Carbon Fibre Arrows. I have also been trained in martial arts and can legally own a Katana Sword.

You're gonna have to consider emigrating then  only .22LR comes in semi auto here, and same goes for a Glock unless you're a vet for humane dispatch.

An outdoor shop owner i know has a personal collection of firearms this includes a desert eagle and an L85A2 / SA80 Assault rifle. As far as im aware he isnt of military backround, but i could be wrong.

Back on topic i was thinking, what about a blank firing pistol to scare intruders away?

I didn't think about Ireland North or South, and to be honest, when talking firearms and hunting laws re archery etc, most of us here have to live under mainland UK law, I'd sooner speak up and be corrected at least the truth will out that way
