MMmm I do like this topic guys.

here is my take on this. firstly where are you intending to go?? if it is just from a to b say AHBL (all hell breaks looS) then you need a 4 b4 with a tank that will go from a to b say work in london bug out in scotland. and get thou what ever mayhem along the way.

but if you are staying put, well the population of the UK is so huge there will be nothing any where with in ??? 2 weeks then AHBL in a spectacular why!!

so then as nice as a 4b4 is it will have no fule, unless it u have then fule would be worth more to barter than to burn. so then a bisical would do better, or small car with points egnition and a wood gas gasifire like they had in europ in WW2
this could have an inverter in and you would have elec power aswell??

My current car is a c4 grand picasso. so no off roading for me :(

That said in winter time i do pack the boot with my winter survival kit just in case i get caught out this includes

ex-army folding shovel
spear gloves, hats, socks
2 tyre mats
5ltr bag road grit
lots of hand warmers
wind-up torch
candles + matches
3ltrs water
mars bars

+ normal break down kit

Need to buy a set of snow chains (although i am undecided weather to get chains or socks)

Getting windows tinted and with seats removed will make good stealth camper with better mpg and easier to drive.

Those sockets are rated at 10amps, a better choice would be a hella socket which is rated at 20 amps, and dont forget to use a suitable fuse.

As bugging out is not an option in the over populated south, I just make sure that my main family vehicle has must have features. Those are that is a common car that parts can easily be obtained, that is has a decent boot size, that it can hold at least 50l of fuel in the tank, and that is spacious in side enough for us to sleep in, in an emergency during travel.

You make some good points on this subject......i can't quite understand why people would want to bug out in a vehicle at all to be honest. Like you say, fuel will be a big issue and the other thing is being in a vehicle will make you a target.
Lets assume that most on this forum think that bugging out would be a last resort, an action that was necessary due to a complete breakdown in society, law and order. How far do people think they will get in a vehicle before they are stopped by other desperate people looking for supplies? To me,bugging out means being hidden so nobody else has a chance of stealing what supplies you have for your survival ,so roving about in a 4x4 does'nt make much sense to me.
What are you going to do if you have a major mechanical breakdown, call th AA?This is'nt the movies, this is a scenario where everything has gone pear shaped and desperate people are roaming around with an ancient self preservation instinct that has kicked in.They won't approach your vehicle and ask you nicely if you can brew them a cup of tea, they will take what you have by force.
We would all like to believe that in such a situation there would be pockets of friendly people willing to band together for the sake of humanity, but will it be like this?I think in very serious situations the natural survival instinct is so strong that people will be more interested in self preservation, whatever the cost.

Just for conversational interest..... Has anyone noticed the land rover 109 snatch armoured Landrovers that have been on eBay recently? Bulletproof .... Literally ....looks like the army on the move.... V8 petrol....OK before you call me out on that one picture the reasonably. Cheap gas conversions available and a huge onboard tank! ....cheap too buy fuel mega range choice of fuels and living in the sticks there are a million and one people (forgive the slight exaggeration) with huge propane tanks outside there houses! .... Incidently.....while obviously illegal day to day propane for domestic use is much. Cheaper than for fueling cars....which is itself half the price of petrol! Something to consider? ...just need to remember where I hid the £5500 it would need lol...... In reality ...even if I. Could afford it and the option would be nice with my children spread out over the SW ... I am also of the opinion that hoofing it and staying away from EVERYONE is the most secure way ... What you can't carry ...bury in multiple caches ...
Just love the idea of being waved through checkpoints after some boisterous out of my way behaviour to the local constabulary!!!
Now really .......where did I bury that cash?
