Re: Filtering grey water
Dont use grey water , use rain water , youll only need to course filter it and is an easy set up . were building a house at the mo, and are fitting a 4000 l rainwater harvest tank with pump feed to the toilets and washing machine.

Well worth getting one, run your rain water/river/stream water through one.
A Millbank bank will act as a good 'pre filter' http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Millbank-Styl ... 2ecac3ee38 I know the fella who makes these and am happy to endorse his work.

Re: Filtering grey water
I almost cant believe i worked this out... but a roof 7.28m x 7.28m approx will provide 1 person with 150ltr water per day (uk average consumption) given the average rain fall in the uk ( 1126.1mm).
so you might not need to clean grey water at all. a seperate tank in the loft filled by solar powered well pump from water butt should keep your loo going.

Re: Filtering grey water
just a thing on filtering ground water i fitted some land drains with soak away's the other week and what we did was firstly dug down roughly 2ft then put 2 in of gravel in then perforated pip wrapped in filter fabric then sounded in gravel again then over the top cover with soil after the rain started i checked the water flow and it looked clean enough to drink no mud or s**t all as you would need to do is try and gather in a maby a 2000L container then pump into the house
