I bought a couple of packs of these. I'm sure there are brighter torches out there but these do a fine job of lighting the way. 3 AAA each with batteries supplied.

Keep one by the bedside. One in the car and the other as EDC. Pack 2 hasn't been opened yet.

You're gonna laugh I have an 9 led torch and a Maglite solitaire in my bum bag which goes with me when I go out, but what I am lost without is a little 2 led torch with a laser pointer (a kitten remote control) on a lanyard, it's invaluable for getting around to the toilet at night without waking my wife  and gets the cats away from where I don't want them to be at any time of day
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

Those little torches are nothing to be laughed at and can be as helpful as a full size jobbie. I recall recently watching the news coverage of the Colorado floods and a military officer was saying that they had used night vision equipment to rescue people who were able to signal using one of those key fob lights.

Along with my LED Lenser, I carry a Maglite Solitare (the smallest one) on my keyring, next to the p38 can opener ;) . Although not the greatest torch, it's always in my pocket ready to go. Oh, and I always carry 3 spare batteries for the Lenser. No point carrying a torch without spare batts IMO...

Thanks guys. You've been a big help. I have decided to get the LED Lenser Police Tech Focus Torch as my main torch for my EDC kit. It looks amazing and has had great reviews and is £26 now on Amazon instead of £47! I think I may also get a Thrunite Ti as a backup torch. And those keyring torches you suggested Munchh, I will be buying probably half a dozen of them and putting one in my first aid kit, one in my 2nd survival tin, one in my EDC kit, one on my keys and keep a couple as spare.

I carry a single cell (an AA) five LED torch....Its best trick though is that by using the little connector wire that came with it I can use it as a backup powerpack for my phone.
I also back it up with a matchbox sized twin LED handcrank.
