Hey, I have been quiet interested with prepping for a few years now but do not have the means to acquire many things. I did have a bug out bag in construction but I have had to empty it for work purposes. I only have a few things stocked, really only enough to last me a day haha but I will be building it up as I am now about to join the workforce again.
Here is a list of what I have so far...there really is not a lot. So suggestions are more than welcome.
2x Vapur 16oz foldable water bottles
1x Spam
1x Easy grow seed tapes
1x Hammer
1x Pencil case filled with small tools, needles, thread, candles, kindling, plasters, female hygiene products, painkillers & allergy tablets.
Like I said not a lot all!
I will eventually add on to it slowly. My next purchases will be stormproof matches, fire starters, more canned food, seeds, goggles, flu masks, axe and eventually more.
Suggestions welcome! ^.^

Welcome from another newbie..
One thing I found is you will spend a fortune atleast initially on the "essentials"
Some way to purify water,
Shelf stable food, (i plan to add to this weekly during the weekly shop
Someway to cook it.
Some form of lighting (torch / lantern)
Toilet materials and something to go on ...
Personal hygiene
Warm clothing / sleeping equipment
If your worried about flu go for p3 rated masks ideally full face

Lack of planning on your part doesn't make it an emergency on mine

Thanks. Yeah I'm planning on purchasing some water purification tablets and other systems. My prepping will mainly consist of bugging out for now. In the future I will invest on bugging in items too.Yorkshire Andy wrote:Welcome from another newbie..

Hello and Welcome to the forum.
Here are a few websites to get you started:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/
http://hisz.rsoe.hu/alertmap/index2.php
http://militarymart.co.uk/
http://www.ffx.co.uk/
http://boundtree.co.uk/
I started out like you, not having much gear or resources. But slowly over time you will be able to add to your kit and improve your knowledge base. As a basic kit I would recommend:
- 33ltr backpack (I would suggest one that has one main compartment and two external side pockets. Some backpacks have the main compartment divided into two sections but the more folds, seems and stitching you have weakens the backpack. Also, some backpacks have a larger main compartment and only small pockets/slits on the side to avoid your backpack catching on branches and bushes etc. I personally don't like this and prefer larger external side pockets as it allows you to have more things like water bottles, stoves or first kits etc easier to hand.)
- Homemade survival tin
- Water bottle (I like the Nato pattern 58 Crusader water bottle)
- Folding army stove with Hexathiamine (sp) tablets
- Mess tin
- Basic first aid kit
- Paracord
- Firesteel
- Sturdy bushcraft knife (As a first knife I would recommend the Hultafors Heavy Duty Knife for less than a tenner)
- Sleeping bag
- Basha (Or some cheap tarps will do the trick)
- Roll mat
- Head torch
- Toiletries
- SAS Survival Guide (Collins Gem Guide)
- Food for Free (Collins Gem Guide)
- Food
- Comfortable boots and warm clothes
- Waterproofs
If you are on a budget I would recommend working towards a basic BOB and at least one weeks worth of food and water in the house and then, in time, you can build on that.

A metal pencil sharpener is super handy cheap addition for your fire kit. A few turns on a twig and you're making kindling. You end up with a handy pointy stick too.
I recently experienced Plymouth City centre so that's why I prep.
Re: Noob Preppie
Thanks that's really good advice there.Quercus-robur wrote:Hello and Welcome to the forum.

I read about the metal pencil sharpener a while back and still haven't added one to my kit. Thanks for reminded me, it is on my to-buy list.Briggs wrote:A metal pencil sharpener is super handy cheap addition for your fire kit. A few turns on a twig and you're making kindling. The pencil sharpener idea is genius! Plus I have a few random sharpeners lying around the house. Thanks!
