My BOB/ GHB Combi.... PIC HEAVY

This is my first real attempt at a best of both worlds "bag" comprising of the basics for survival and some comforts

Built about the idea in my head of everything together with the ability to split the bag and make a run for it if needs be ideally Caching the other half, If its a leisurely evacuation say a chemical spill or large fire where you are taken to a "reception center im "catered for"

Ive tried to keep all the kit in it legal to a point (more on that in a bit)

Only got a 3" oppinel knife in there which i would keep with me in all events can easily upgrade and take something bigger and a leatherman if needed in a SHTF situation


The bag is 2 in one rucksack with a 20l day sack with a 60l main compartment which can be separated... by undoing 4 snap buckles and a zip..... (Tried to attach them in forum but err 14mp was set on the camera NEWB error anyhow)

Water puritabs

MRE Army canteen cup and hexi

Wooly hat, Gloves, Buff,

Small first aid kit

Fork candles Cylumes, Condoms, Marker pens, Cutlery,

Matchless fire kit, couple of lighters,

Bothy shelter, Orange survival bag and Mylar blanket,

Thermal mug and brew kit Yorkshire tea of course

IR / white/ blue distress strobe

2x mini maglite one aa one aaa, petzl led head lamp and wind up torch.

Oppinel knife and sharpening steel

GPS (etrex)

Perry whistle and compass

Compact water bottle..

paracord bracelet on handle


Then onto the larger "half" of the bag..

Ive packed it in layers for a reason...

anyhow... bottom pouch



Goretex jacket trousers and High vis vest......

Large first aid kit, FM Radio, another hat and finger less gloves


Anyhow the main compartment...

top layer as such stuff i can remove easily if using this in a "none life threatening" survival situation as i really dont think the police would like a Axe or a pruning saw much like they like lock knives and other offensive weapons but would be useful for shelter building, sorting fire wood and other such legitimate tasks And a dry bag to stash the bag in if needs be....





Under that..

Bright yellow fleece jacket

and under that




Gas stove, bit more food Full change of clothes (quick drying gray combats cycling polo shirt, Minuro (spl) wool jumper socks and Boxers..) bar of soap and a flannel, toothpaste and brush...

One man tent and a basic 3 season sleeping bag... and a camping towel

Not currently in the bag as although its stored in the dry temperatures might just touch freezing so kept lifesaver bottle out just in case

got a sig bottle clipped to the outside too

Not sure if its Ideal but think it covers the basics and a bit of "luxury"

and reasonably nice to back pack with

I like the idea of being able to split the pack A LOT. Gives it great flexibility.

Maybe another rat pack in the 20l if it'll fit? Or trail mix at least? They're my only thoughts.

Thats a really nice pack, what is it and what would one of those cost?
Does the big half clamshell open ?
(I'm looking for a medium sized civ pack)

The contence seem to be well choosen.....I'll have to think about it, but I can't see anything missing ATM

I've always believed in the BoB+ Sister bag approach.....You just have yours so you can join them together (So, nicking that idea )


Oh, a lot of 20p's would be a good addition, at least a fivers worth (more then a tenner would be even better). Change in general is useful but 20p's offer the best utility

Dont keep it in my car as a rule i work 9 miles from work by road far less than 5 as the crow flies. Ive got enough gear in the car to enable me to walk home that and 3 places i can stop off at (family friends) en route. and a 24hr ration pack

In severe weather or if traveling a good distance i would at least chuck the 20l in


When i next get the credit card out i plan to add a full ration pack in place of the cans.. and probably 500ml of survival packed water

and i have plenty of room in the 20l for some more food Might put the pack of 3 day ration "ships biscuit's" in there thats sat on the shelf

the zips seem solid but im not a massive fan of the nylon string things to use to work the zip but i suppose if you yank to hard they snap to save busting the zip itself

well added to the 20l

2x sis gell energy isotonic "slurps".....
2 x sis choc fudge bars...
3 days ships biscuits ration pack
millbank water filter and more puritabs
and 500ml of foil bagged "survival" water to save swapping out bottles every few weeks....
and a couple of "cuppa soups" to the brew kit


think the bag is about full now it took some packing

Managed to take it out for a test hike or two yet ? im still in the pondering phase
