Re: Money, money money
Even the little bits of money help - I have one of those "need a can opener to get into it" tins. When I get a £2 coin I put it in the tin. Been doing that for a few months now. I can't spend it and it is accessible coinage should I need and its pre broken down into small chunks rather than £10 notes. Also it seems easier to chuck a nugget or two into the tin rather than take out notes from the bank.

Now this may sound a little weird to y'all, but I keep about £200 in copper coins cos I can see them becoming useful in a teotwawki situation for bartering as they can be melted down to make things. I. E armour or even arrow heads but that's only in a desperate situation. But I'd rather be ready for any eventualities.

As I mentioned I've also started keeping the copper coins,,it's easier to check with a magnet rather than looking at the dates. I'm sure I've read somewhere that there were production problems sometime in the late 90's (97 ish I think) and a one off run of copper coins was made that year.
I tend to feel that they may have some bargaining potential or could simply be sold for scrap when they eventually fall out of circulation.
As to them being used for armour or arrowheads probably unlikely as better materials will still be available but other uses will come along. I have a small stock of copper sheet and bar that I'm loathed to scrap just because " it'll come in handy one day"
I remember watching a programme (the doomsday preppers???? I can't remember) where a guy in America went to the bank every week to change notes into dollar coins. Pre 1972 coins are still in circulation and have a silver content that makes them worth far above their face value so he would sort out the couple of hundred dollars , keep the silver and return the others.

I will carry on keeping paper notes, buying stuff with them-paying the Sparkie tomorrow-and trading in general. Cash will still be good even a couple of days after shtf. Buy what you can.

The other thing im thinking of, is sharpening a few as well so i can use them as throwing weapons. a kosh doesnt sound like a bad idea either, get a small leather bag full of coins attached to some paracord and use it like a flail (ball and chain) go medieval on on their asses.

i have £300 in £1 and £2 coin but also have about £100 in coppers for the reason of melting down and using them for more useful purposes. i was also thinking about 5p coins to make my own shotgun ammo with ( got that from resident evil )
