Ok this is something I have been looking at for a long time now I have a family. I always had confidence i would survive anything with my survival knowledge and military training but now that there is Mrs and kids envolved and with global issues such as "solar maximum's" "North Korea" "Energy Crisis" this list could go on and on, I just feel that i should be a bit more action ready. I have started picking up thinks like dried foods and rice everytime i visit a shop the main problem i have is space in my current house so all i am doing at the moment is ensuring there is always 1-2 months worth of food in the house in case the brown stuff hits the wherey thing.
To be honest i am reletivly new to this but so far what i have learned about certain "sell by" dates and "use by " dates is shocking that food companys get away with lying so much to us.
Any starting guides, tips and advise would be great.

Welcome! My tip is to take it steady, and go through a part of the forum steadily - make notes, and decide what you want to do, what you think are the issues.
Good luck!

I'm guessing you're thinking of storing food or supplies in your recently dug hole. Have you thought about using something like this? They are the cheapest, watertight container in this size, with a screw top lid. Holds 200 litres.
Mine are buried sideways in grass banks which works well for me. I was just thinking though, if you were to bury them vertically you'd have to fix them in tight, otherwise if it rains a lot you could come home to find it half afloat, bobbing about on your lawn.

I recently experienced Plymouth City centre so that's why I prep.
