After having viewed the video that I posted recently about pest control in difficult times, I have now taken delivery of 2Kg of diatomateous earth in case I have any creatures that need killing at some point in the future. Anything from ants to fleas to bed bugs

I managed to find a guy on free cycle giving away pallets so stocking up with wood.
I also found free cycle really useful for other stuff too. Im going to have a go at a small aquaponics system so collected 2 bath tubs to link to our pond.

well the house selling went pear shape so we are going to take it off the market until after the new year now, no real fires for me this winter or a bigger garden to plan for next spring :( but at lest I know where I am now so can start looking at other preps again.
My mother has just discovered that she is a prepper as she always makes sure that she has spare cleaning stuff in her cupboards when I told her she was prepping she gave me such a dirty look

Planted onions last night and just now planted garlic and japanese onions. Won't see anything until the next spring, but it'll be nice when they appear :)

Ive said this over and over again , prepping isnt new , all you need is a more mature granny (wont say old) because that's what they did in the days gone by , store when the goings good for the winter months when there's nothing growing , like the old idea of having a pantry or larder , to actually keep a stock in.

Be Prepared.
Plan like its the last loaf on the shop shelves.
Plan like its the last beer in the fridge.

I just have a small pile in my bedroom. Tins of beans, carrots, peas and potatoes and a few bags of lentils just in case.

Not quite a pantry, but at least I have it.

Ive just been to the supermarket and got a couple more tins of soup and ravioli, i of course didnt tell the missus who doesnt understand the premise of prepping, (shes another one of those who thinks its only mental people who prep) what they were for i just said i fancied something a bit different and when she wasnt looking i buried them at the back of the cupboard where they will remain, ive taken to just buying a few tins here and a few tins there when shes not looking.

That's how I started terrytaylor, now she wants me to lay in more stores of rice candles and toilet paper, plus I bought her a pink folding knife ;)

Myself I'm slowly clearing the back garden to be a blank canvas then it's moving everything from the allotment to it.
I find if I can do something while she is out, she's more accepting as she isn't going to put it back to ow it was,and she knows I won't

i dont even bring up prepping any more, my missus thinks its mental and doesnt get it at all, ive tried explaining it many different ways, so ive just decided im not gonna give up on it, ill just continue without her knowing. were in the process of looking for a new house as our landlord has decided he wants to sell so growing is gonna have to take a back seat for a while

unless she is switched on about home electrics get home before her next week once the clocks change and flick the main house electrical isolator switch .. then go out again  come home an hour late and see how she is "coping".. Its funny how many people fail the ability to survive a few hours without electric without going nuts its sadly funny I bet 50% of the uk houses do not have a torch .. and even fewer will have working batteries in it... (if they can find it in the dark)

Yet the older generation still seem to be able to cope. My Dad lived the 3 day week another older guy who i collect fire wood for was laughing discussing the power shortage back then over a few beers with us.. ...

He has the old coal fire with boiler up the flu as he calls it a "primus" (gas) stove and a parafin light... my dad seems to be pushing everyone he knows into buying candles at the moment especially younger family members  Think ive managed to get it into his head as he is sneaking extra tins into the family shop he used to be a baker and as such i have stocks of strong flour and the rest to make bread and leaving it in the car boot for me to smuggle into our semi secret stockpile (and yes my mother and sister think we are mad) :tinfoil

need to sort my car out this week and begin the winter stocking and get some salt ordered to clear the drive and add to my newly expanding food pile
If your roughing it, Your doing it wrong ;)

Lack of planning on your part doesn't make it an emergency on mine
