how is everyone prepping for the big storm

Hi guys i was just curious to find out how everyone is prepping for tonights storm. do any of you live near the south or in an area prone to flooding.

I have made surethat everything is weighed down and packed away in the garden (chairs,table, buckets/bins etc. ) , here in the Midlands it is rather windy. The generator is fuelled up, and power cables ready to roll out. Half our village lost power this morning(I guess it was just coincidence), and the water was low-pressured for a time. We have stored water, however.
My main concern is damage to the property, but there are plenty of tarps, plywood sheets,cement and fixings in the workshop-and the insurance policy!

I've been up on the roof and secured a missing tile back into place, good luck to everyone

batteries for torches, torches at accessible positions, oil for lamp, alcohol for stoves and bioethanol fireplace, camping kettle at the ready, many layers of clothes at the ready, first aid kit in reach, hot water bottles in reach, staying in, aint going nowhere, food still in stock....

just the basics.

Looks at the moment it's going to be the usual over hyped media event made to sell papers, but just to be on the safe side I have put twenty grow bags around the edges of my biggest shed which has a flat roof which just happens to be hit first by the wind in this direction.
We shall see.

I have done the following this afternoon:

- secured items in the garden
- gathered some basics together including torch, radio, blanket, paraffin lamp, candles etc.
- extra batteries, paraffin and meths
- food and bottled water for three days
- ice cubes in the freezer, so we can transfer fridge contents to a cool bag worst case
- tested the automatic water pump in the cellar
- moved a few compost bags and sand bags to the back door to stop ingress
- tested smoke and carbon monoxide detectors
- turned off all electrical items that are not being used

Is there anything I have missed?

I have a lot of scaffolding outside the house at the moment, so really just hoping that will survive without damaging anything.

ive secured the garden, put everything from my garden in the garage, and ive taken my motorbike out of the garage and parked it in a corner near 2 walls. i have taken it out of the garage as one of the 6 large roof tiles that makes up the entire roof caved in when we had the heavy snow earlier this year( my landlord hasnt done anything to put it right). so i dont hold up much hope for it. here in leicester its a bit blustery, but not too bad. just have to see how it goes later.

The candles are out ready, my torches are charged, all windows locked and secured and the blankets are out. my car is parked away from the building as last storm we had here in SWales the roof lost a lot of tiles. TBH i am not expecting it to be that bad, but you need to be prepared i guess, i just wish that my friends and family would stop calling me a loon. Went to my father this morning with a couple of 2 litre bottles of water, a pack of batteries for his torch and put his sandbags against the back door as garden is constantly flooding, naturally he thinks i am being OTT but he seems to forget that he is getting older and i know he cant do these things by himeself anymore

Make sure it's secure - and take the boards off. The HA decided that gale season was the perfect time to replace our roof, so when Hurricane Bawbag hit, there we were with half a roof, surrounded by scaffolding. The roofers buggered off, leaving it all insecure, so OH rang and insisted they come back and remove the boards and tie the rest down. The boards are the most likely to go, get them off there!

weight down dustbin lids. turned garden tables upside down and weighed them down. Put a few things inside that i thought might blow away. Dad's gonna be upset, the storm hasn't even come and the support for his vine has already been destroyed.
