Flooding sandbags or what?
Anyone know where i can get a decent quantity of sand bags on a budget or ideas to achieve similar effects from flooding.

Been looking into sandbags and alternatives myself this morning, haven't found anything cheap yet but seen some pretty swish alternatives.bettersafethansorry wrote:Anyone know where i can get a decent quantity of sand bags on a budget or ideas to achieve similar effects from flooding.
I imagine the cheapest will be simply to buy empty sacks and fill yourself but I can see the storage being an issue , you need them filled should a situation occur bu 99.9% of the time they will be in the way.
I'll update if I find a cheap source.
£0.37 each per bag is best i've found so far (for 50 bags only).

One thing I found is try and store the sand out of the bags..... As the Hessian rots rather quickly....
We have about 20 x 20 kg bags of sand in the sealed builders merchant sealed bags with two ideally 3 people it takes no time at all to fill them when needed

If you wanted a lot then the best I have found is £0.21 each but you have to get 500. -> http://www.globepackaging.co.uk/500-x-w ... 22x36.html
For just 50 the same place sells them for £0.34 each http://www.globepackaging.co.uk/50-x-wo ... 22x36.html?
I haven't yet seen which is the best fabric to use. Hesian I assume isn't as popular as it rots but there seem to be quite a few variations on the woven synthetic designs.

Hi all,
I know a few years ago when we had real bad storms my dad called the local council and asked for some sand bags. He was told if he is willing to collect them he can have as many as he wants (supplied empty of course)
Not sure if a quick email to your local council highway dept is worth a try? Maybe inform them your preparing for localized flooding.

Nice idea with the council but I know what they are like as i deal with them alot and they would want me to sign or take details and all my prepping of the grid so far to the local so i think for £14 Ex's link is worth a shot.

Most Councils in Scotland have the policy that if you turn up at the depots for sandbags you can get them FOC and as many as you need within reason , Rock salt as well (when they have it )
