Ms Amber has said all I was going to say about tents. Too heavy, no stealth, ages to put up, etc, etc.

If it were me, I'd consider getting hammocks with tarps. A hammock would get your kids off the wet/cold ground and they are so easy to put up and take down. 3 or 4 of those are cheaper than a tent. If you go for nylon, I'd recommend some sort of fabric liner/duvet in the bottom to stop the cold and any condensation. I would expect your kids would prefer hammocks over a tent as well.
I recently experienced Plymouth City centre so that's why I prep.

Would love to see a 3 year old stay in a hammock without falling out, I have enough trouble and I have another digit after the 3!

Tents are big and bulky but again it all depends on the time scale of this scenario

Ahah, I wasn't aware we were dealing with 3 year olds. For ages zero to three, I'd recommend this vertical hammock instead of the more-traditional horizontal type.

I bet somewhere in the US you can even get it in Realtree Max4 camo.

If you have kids to worry about as well then my advice would be to forget about escaping into the countryside, tent or no tent, regardless of your camping skills.

Bugging out indefinitely is no fun at all for adults who can rationally understand everything going on around them, for kids it will be 10 times worse. The key word is indefinite, when you don't know when you'll next be able to dry a pair of socks, even a tiny bit of rain becomes life altering lol

I think people with family's will need to take a different route, maybe use their contacts/networks to know they'll have multiple places to go in a hurry and make that Plan A?

Mines 3 years to and she would be too big for the above bouncer. i Understand amber and route 1 is to bug in at home or at a secondary location but i was thinking if choices are to a point where that is the only option.

Then if your only option is bugging out the only way you would be able to bug out quickly would be to have a basha and bivvi I'm sure they make smaller ones, I know they have loads of types for hikers and of all ages

Glad you have some shelter sorted, if only a temp solution. Good luck with your search, and let us know what tent you get. :)
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

What about a sun tent for by the beach? I know it's not ideal, but they're pretty cheap and tend to have one open side which you could have pointed towards you?

It could definitely be adapted for the situation, and a lot of them just pop up I think.

Not sure they would stand the UK weather tho paddy. Ive seen some compact 2 man tents that i recon 2 could starp to the top of the bergan without adding considerable weight. may purchase 1 and test thoroughly first.
