Wind up radio advice

Post by jasper1 »

Morning all.......

I would like to add a radio to my preps, but would like some opinions on what would be best to but, as there is a vast range out there!!! there are some tiny asda ones on ebay @ 2 for £6 to hundreds of pounds for an all singing all dancing one. Is it a case of "get what you pay for" or is it one of those gimmiky areas. The tiny ones appear to have only fm. As a non radio user would this be suitable? Also, what does "Max 15mW" mean? What are the qualities I need in a radio.......

Thanks in advance folks

Quite like the Eton Range, this one is on my shopping list for next pay. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Eton-Satellit ... 51b0ace6f6

I did a fair bit of research and this is the one I ended up getting and which I use daily:

£18 with postage and multi band. It's loud enough too...

I've got two of these -http://www.amazon.co.uk/Duronic-Hybrid- ... olar+radio

Work well enough for me (I can listen to Classical music while the world falls apart !) and within my budget. Wind up works as it states, 1 min of winding gets about 20 min of play. Although I haven't managed to try out the solar charge yet (I live in Wales, its winter, its always cloudy and raining !). However I've a day out in the hills and mountains coming up so it'll be getting a trial then.

I actually bought the 2 for £6 on ebay ASDA ones simply to listen to on the commute to work every morning and one is in my BOB they are actually pretty handy however, the channels seem to be pre-programmed so there is no proper search option especially when it comes to wanting to search non legal stations etc. ( i am not up on the correct lingo)

I too can give a recommendation for this radio too. Had it coming up to 2 years and it's still going strong. The wind up charge on this thing is great, although i just run it on the solar power. Sits on the windowsill and plays away while i'm cooking. Hardy and feels very very sturdy.

I have a small gelert solar/wind up one but the dial is really fiddly to use, made worse after a trip to the beach and sand got where sand should not go. The dial is almost flush with the radio itself so that would be one to avoid just from practicality. However it charges and winds up well.
