this is in relation to a major event..grid down for a long time, etc.
I read some where that if you dont prep your knackered.(agreed)
but it also said that even if you have preps/prepped...chances are youll probably get them 'taken' from you.
and even if you dont get them taken from you..at some point theyll run out.
After reading it I felt depressed! lol
any views?
cheers.

heirloom seeds .
learn to grow your own veg and collect the seeds from them for next year .
grow more than you need and barter with the excess .
it would all so be a good idea to learn how to preserve them as well .
i would be a good idea to learn how to defend whats yours aswell

Agreed, it is depressing in all counts.
My OH feels that he wouldn't want us to survive in a major situation like that
and actually when you think about what might happen to woman/girls etc well.........
But you cannot think like that and you must do everything within your power to survive any situation.
Prep for your family and future survival. Think defence (and anything that is spoken about must be within the constraints of our current legal system).
Think groups - hard for us british folks but consider family and friends that you might be able to get on board.
Think where can you go and be able to achieve all these things.
However, it's not just about prepping for a major event. It's about surviving redundancy, illness, rising food and fuel prices - all these things can be shtf moments.

Trick is not to tell anyone what you have and where it is...
look about on here about matching the houses near you. Dont go lighting the house if you have a gennerator for example black out curtains so people dont see light.... ensure you dont let people see you walking round your house / garden scoffing food...
cook late at night so people wandering about in daylight hours dont smell your cooking.
there was even talk about making it look like you have already been looted if the worst happens hoping any scrotes will pass you by...

least the reasonable force now has the what you deemed necessary at the time and the cravat about your fear might have affected your judgementpreppingsu wrote:Think defence (and anything that is spoken about must be within the constraints of our current legal system).

Re: lose lose situation?
i think its great learning to defend your preps, but what happens if things turn really bad and you have to use deadly force to protect them, im in a conundrum regarding that, i would want to protect them by any means because i have 2 young children and i want them to be protected, but then at the same time, i know that whoever could be raiding my preps may have young children too. how do you get over that thought, im not sure if i could do it. a few years ago before children i would have said oh yeah no problem, but now im not so sure.

If you have a balcony then you can grow in pots or google vertical gardening. This would give you greens, toms, even carrots. You can grow salad stuff on windowsills.prppr wrote:what if u havent got a garden?
Google or look in here for 'sprouting' - don't need much space or equipment.
Other than that, consider an allotment or find a neighbour who has a largish garden and finds it hard to look after and offer your services. You get growing space, they get the garden looked after and maybe some produce.
You could also consider guerrilla gardening.

Im not trying to rain on your parade..but what happens when a gang of people turn up who may or may not have eaten for a long time?preppingsu wrote:If you have a balcony then you can grow in pots or google vertical gardening. Ok, so if you are only considering a time when society has collapsed and there is no law and order maybe this forum is not for you.prppr wrote:Im not trying to rain on your parade..but what happens when a gang of people turn up who may or may not have eaten for a long time?preppingsu wrote:If you have a balcony then you can grow in pots or google vertical gardening. We consider all situations and try to offer suggestions to support members. Now you may be playing devils advocate, but if it really was that bad then you would need to have to balls to do exactly what the 'gangs' would do. Could you do that? Really, truly?????
