Hello From Sunny West Yorkshire

Post by Mustachio »

Hi guys, I've been lurking round these forums for a while now soaking up your wisdom, but after making a bargain buy from Amazon today thought I'd post for the first time.

I've been prepping for a very short space of time (kind of, I've stored 5 or 6 5 litre bottles of water in the attic for some time, I guess you could consider that prepping) but I not only see the obvious sensibilities of preppeing .... but I really enjoy it too.

I never really knew prepping was a "thing" until I accidentally stumbled across the concept. I wouldn't say I'm a conspiracy theorist but I have taken a great interest in 9/11, and when you watch videos on Youtube it invariably recommends other "conspiracy" videos and that led to prepper. After checking out a couple of videos I instant saw that it was something I should be doing.

I guess I'm trying to prep for any scenario, the most likely of which would be natural disaster or complete loss of earnings (I'd been prepping properly for a couple of months when my wife found out she may be getting made redundant, so she saw first hand that my prepping was a decent idea, fortunately we found out yesterday her job was safe).

I have a decent supply of food and water in my attic but always add a few more cans and couple of bottles of water everytime I go shopping, I also have some alternitive light sources (I got one of those wind-up lanterns from Tesco I saw someone post on here ... cheers :) ) I will also be ordering a water butt and chemical toilet for emergencies.

Being a father of a little boy it would never be my intention to "bug out" but it would be irresponsible of me not even to consider that eventuality, so whilst it's not my current priority I got myself a nice back pack for a BOB and pick up things for it whenever I see a bargain. Got myself a nice Gerber DMF folder for cheap the other week and I love it a lot.

So yeah, that's my life story ... heh ... nice to meet you all.

Thank you.

Your forum has highlighted areas that I'd never even thought of before! But I'm not letting it overwhelm me, just setting my priorities and working my way through. It's not feasible from a financial situation to right all the wrongs that I'd neglected over the years, so if something happens that I've not been able to prepare for yet then I'll just have accept it for what it is and try my best to resolve what ever it is.

I love reading the forum though, some really interesting topics and tips to be had.

Cheers.

I might have come home with 3 of them last night

Now got enough head torches for the household and a couple of spares :tinfoil
If your roughing it, Your doing it wrong ;)

Lack of planning on your part doesn't make it an emergency on mine

Oooohhh they looks good, might have to see if my local Tesco has any left!

That wind up lantern is fantastic. We were using it in the garden on bonfire night, works a treat! Cheers

hello and welcome to the forum

first thing anything stored in the attic is open to temperature change water and food will go bad unless its insulated you are better off storing it in a spare room or around the house that's temperature controlled

Hi there, thank you for the tip!

I should have made it clear though that it's more of a third floor rather than an attic, it's a central heated bedroom .... I just call it an attic because I'm from Yorkshire :)
