Hi people,
I'm new to this forum - got interested in prepping after learning a bit about Peak Oil and the massive resource wars and famines that we potentially face in the next few years. I'm not optimistic about the future of humanity. I've come to the unfortunate realisation that we live in a very sick, messed up society that's pretty much geared-up to serve a tiny, corrupt, and extremely rich Elite. In some years time - who knows when - the human race could bring itself pretty close to self-annihilation. Oil depletion, famine, war, disease, breakdown of infrastructure - I don't know what's going to happen, when, or how long it will take, or how bad it will really be... but I believe that something will happen, and that global civilization as we know it will undergo some form of collapse. I'm interested in speaking to like-minded people who don't think I'm crazy when I talk about this kind of stuff!
Skills - not as many as I'd like or nearly as many as a lot of folk on here, but... as a hillwalker I can navigate from OS maps, cook (from improvised recipes), make wine and beer, and am fairly practically-minded having done my own basic car repairs/house repairs. I am beginning to learn about making food from plants that grow in the wild.
Thanks for taking the time to read my post.

Re: Hello
Hi Spadework,
Good post, I feel very similarly which reflect my life choices - to get my family deep in to the country side (rural France) now, installed with systems in place for when tshf.
There are things over here that I feel more comfortable about, like part of my EDC is a Spyderco manix 2 a fantastic knife, I would get in to a lot of trouble for having this on my person back home.
Another example is gun laws - much more relaxed and am in the process of obtaining my hunting licence now, which every man in France is entitled to. It is a safety and knowledge test and bow hunting is still allowed. Skills that I look forward to passing on to my son.
Anyway I digress, I don't think you are crazy being prepared and planning for the future are sensible choices to have made whilst the rest of the population are being numbed by eastenders and corrie!
All the best.

Re: Hello
Thanks for your welcomes, all. Wishing you all the best in your prepping activities. CharpentierTom - it sounds like you have an impressive set-up where you are, nice one. I will keep an eye on what's being discussed and try to post any useful info/observations/questions on the forum in the next few months as I learn more...

Re: Hello
Hi Spadework,
The set up isn't that impressive yet but am getting there. Have been working on a GHB recently (when am allowed to stop working on the house!) and also been looking at installing a wood burner with a back boiler to give my radiators some warmth this winter, so will take some photos and make some posts soon I promise!
All the best.
