Siatica
Does anyone have it? How do you deal with it? I'm 33 but it sometimes makes me feel 93 and sometimes it gets me down. If i bend my leg at the knee i can bring my leg to my chest but if its straight I'm lucky to lift my foot 6 inches off the floor. The docs have put me on codine for it,it takes the edge off it but mostly makes me feel "high" and I'm not a fan of that. So whats my options? Will it get better? Or am i stuck with it?
Re: Siatica
it can be caused by a few things from scar tissue near a nerve to disc or bone problem in back, pain relief is how its normally managed unless a scan shows prob that can be operated on.
try to stagger meds rather than use just one that peaks and troffs, ie paracetomol / codiene. speak to gp about it, hope it improves soon

Re: Siatica
coincidentally i was literally just taking to my sisters inlaws about this and i gave him this link
http://www.medicinenet.com/sciatica/pag ... r_sciatica
I was also telling him that when i was a karate instructor in leeds, i had a few students who suffered with this and they found the slow stretching exercises in karate useful, some even switched to doing taichi and yoga.

i suffer with this from time to time .
i found a TENS machine to be the best help for me , no meds or feeling high .just read the booklet and place the pads were they belong and then find the program that works best for you .
TENS are also good for other things from migraine to pulled muscles .
they work by blocking nerve impulses to the brain , so in effect you don`t feel the pain .

Re: Siatica
I suffered with this a few years back for about 10 months. Extremely painful, sorry that you are suffering with it.
I ended up going for acupuncture as well as normal back and neck massages and lived off painkillers which made me feel spaced out. If you can, try the acupuncture a go, really think that helped.

Sciatic pain is so debilitating I really feel for you, I suffered for many years with it having to go through tens machine use physiotherapy and reams of pils eventually I found a wonderful doctor who agreed to help with a discectomy, that was 20yrs ago and in my eyes he saved my life I have recommended him to all my family who have gone through the same op with the same excellent results, he is a very straight talking man who tells you what he needs you to do first then if you make the effort he will help you, it's a big step but he really helped me
