Blast From The Past - Kurt Saxon Articles From The 1970's
Re: Blast From The Past - Kurt Saxon Articles From The 1970'
Wow Triple Sod thanks for the amusing articles...
Kurt Saxon, now that's a name I've not heard in years. Old Kurt has been predicting the end of the world since bell bottoms and disco were all the rage. I first saw Kurt in a Law Enforcement IED awareness level course I took through work. The instructor used him as an example of what not to do, and pointed that it would be difficult shake hands with old Kurt since he managed to blow off several of his fingers as he did when he was following one of his explosives recipes in his "Poor man James Bond".
I also loved a his bit about the collapse of Atlantis. Atlantis imagine... But the part that raised my eye brow the most was this bit...
"The only way to fight losers is by abortion and sterilization. Waiting for them to arm themselves and then trying
to combat them is a bit late. Since it's too late anyway, give them this round. Move from the cities and let them rot. After the
worst is over we survivalists can destroy what's left of them at our leisure."
Forced abortions and sterilization. Who will choose those that don't deserve to live. Kurt? "The authorities"? Sounds almost like something from Mao's China or Hitler's Blood and Honor laws anyway...
Seems to me that Kurt Saxon is a exactly the sort of person those of us people interested in a resilient lifestyles should avoid. Nevertheless, thanks for the interesting blast from the past. But be careful you're liable to slip on what's left of Kurt's fingers if you take anything he says seriously.

Have come across his stuff and promptly disregarded him. IMHO a nutter

Thanks judicatr, was a little apprehensive when I posted that people wouldn't quite get the tone of the thread,
Kurt Saxon's always been something of an oddball even by survivalist standards and much of his worldview is nutty if not down right disgusting.
A big problem I see though, not just in our little community but society in general is that people want to either find something they agree with wholeheartedly or write it off as pure nonsense. In short they don't want to have to think for themselves and certainly with Saxon's writing if you look at it with a critical eye there is much good food for thought. After all a broken clock is right twice a day and if you can filter out all the rubbish he does occasionally make a few decent points.
Even more important that that though is the historical context of his writing;
Looking back now of course, it's hard not to laugh when you hear someone was predicting the end of civilisation as we know it 'in late 1981 or '82',
yet the reasons he gives are not only often quite sensible, but almost verbatim what we're hearing today.....
Skyrocketing prices at the supermarket and petrol pumps,
a overall breakdown in the quality of culture norms,
government ineptitude with the economy.
For me at least that's a interesting, if not very sobering thought.

Greetings Triple_Sod
Well I almost feel bad for my previous trite comments. You raise a good point though. I do think its true that sometimes a little diamond might be found amid a mountain of rubbish. Nevertheless, I stand by my premise that with Saxon you have to dig through a good bit of rubbish to find that diamond.
For me two points follow...
First, given the pace of my life with work, family, amusements , chores, etc. I find I've not the time to sift through that mountain of rubbish; so I've become more select in my reading and study. Therefore when I come across an author, speaker, blogger or God help us all a politician, wrangling for my attention I judge their position against three measures. Is it righteous? Is it prudent? Is it just? If it seems to me to fall short on those measures I tend to discard it without much further notice. True that limits my exposure, but who has the time these days to get all through something only to find so little return.
Second, you note correctly that Saxon (and others of his ilk) has been predicting the "collapse" since the 70's. And yet we're still hear, in more or less, the same condition, nutters on the left and right not withstanding. This begs the question "why"? And how does that effect my concerns and the resulting preparations?
An interesting point to ponder... I'll wander off now to do just that. If you or anyone else has any guidence regarding this I'd be interested to hear it...
Cheers,

for me certainly it's a pertinent reminder that survival's a marathon not a sprint
and to prepare based on realistic long term plans and not the panic of the moment.

I really do not have the time to sift though Kurt Saxons rantings for the nuggets of use. There are other writers and resources that are easier to work with.

I don't take that to mean forced abortions.judicatr wrote: But the part that raised my eye brow the most was this bit...

.
I take it to mean that the right to lifers should stop fighting liberals on that issue, allow the practice to be legalized, and let that segment of the population limit their numbers by their own choice
