Shipping containers for building

Post by dannydela91 »

Hi there,

Both myself and partner have been thinking about buying some land and buying plenty of shipping containers to act as walls and premises for out BOL.

Would we require planning permission as containers are not a long standing fixture ?

Have a look at your local planning:

I do believe that any permanent structure needs planning permission, especially in or around any green area, the old way of getting around planning was to say you are building wooden structures for food storage ie potatoes, grain, veg stuff like that then after five years the structure itself became permanent, not sure if that is the case now but hope it helps

We have planning permission for a container because we work on our patch and the container is classed as a necessary structure for equipment storage and shelter. We are limited to 28 overnight stays, but who is counting?

If you're considering container living, check out vandal proof welfare units because they are insulated and have electricals fitted. Also consider fitting a sloped roof. Container roofs will spring leaks after a while. I'll try and post a pic of ours...
I recently experienced Plymouth City centre so that's why I prep.
