edible and medicinal plants. edmund launert

Post by munchh »

I was talking to a friend about the prepper/bushcraft books we have and mentioned that I had picked a few up at bootsales and charity shops this year, this one in perticular he was interested in, so while we where on the phone we were goggling it.

average price £60!

The hamlyn guide to edible and medicinal plants of Britan and northern Europe, by Edmund Launert.
isbn.0 600 37216 2
mine is the hardback, I was amaized, I know I like my bootsale bargins but this was 50p, anyway, I am now on full alert when looking at stalls with books, but the chances of another coming along are small I suppose.

I like it as it has very good illustrations and its small enough to have in your pack.

It's one of my favourite books too. Earlier this year, when I thought I'd lost my copy, I scouted round for another - got it for a fiver in the end, but there were some ridiculously priced copies out there!

It's an excellent resource, and small enough to fit in a bag or pack.

That's a book that I don't rate - for the high price often quoted. IMHO, you are better off looking for another of the plant ID-photo books by the same publisher and annotating the text entries with any useful herbal data.

It can be found for alot less, since finding mine I have a saved search on ebay that flags them up, I just got one for a friend for 99p plus £2,50 postage.

it bothers me that some of the info is different when you put some of these books side by side? :?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Edible-Medicina ... 0600563952

Currently around £9.00 (30-11-2013) on Amazon.
Ebay around £25-30.00 I wont be buying it ATM but will let you know if I do..

We will all need access to this kind of info if the SHTF for any length of time..

EDIT:

I get most of my books from the recycling area of my local civic amenity site (dump), so my copy was free.

There is a great website called 'Plants for a Future' (http://www.pfaf.org/user/default.aspx) that has a very extensive list of plants and their uses. If you want an offline copy, you can buy CDs or downloadable copies of the entire database.
