Thanks for responses to smoke problem guys.. few things to tryout..

As for the the outside "decor"... to age the building.. and make it look "ruined and empty", try a whitewash of yoghurt mixed 1:4 parts water. Creates a mould which encourages moss.. plant ivy asap!

You will need to take care over access to the building. It's all well and good making it look derelict but if you have a clearly defined path or even a track with flattened plants it could possibly attract someone.

Just an update, spent all weekend making storage and have been making the whole place look old and unused.

I have been careful about making an obvious path or access route and may use some small trees and shrubs to cover that soon

I've done quite a lot of research on this so might be able to help.. most recently into water supply (hand pumped) so just ask if your having any troubles would also be nice to hear your trial and error.. save me doing the same at a later date

I hope you can put that into action and get it built, When you have saved up a bit find your land and make a start. I was fortunate enough to have a solid shell to start with and I am making good progress. I have not had a chance to stay in for 24 hours and get a feel for that place to work out what supplies and things I would need.

Will keep you as updated as possible as best as I can.

In regards to a toilet system and water system, I really need to try something out and see how it works best, I want something that can work but keep low key. I am thinking of making an addition with a "bathroom" style feel but something that does not rely on mains water.


As for heating, I am still thinking about it, I have taken the time to insulate the building, and it has been okay in there so far.

Hi Guys,


Just coming back to the forum, Had some unfortunate flooding.

That all said, moving to a new house. Looking to making one of the bedrooms a bug out/safe zone kind of room. Almost a command centre.

Looking at a mutli screen wall with different feeds, news channels, weather etc and of course my own cctv system. Any ideas on a theme for that room?

So I have decided to go down this weekend to the retreat and do a test run on getting there and then to settle down for the weekend


This should give me a proper feel for everything and hopefully find some flaws that I can then amend and work on
