I've been watching it for the past few years and seen an almost direct correlation between a negative NAO index and cold winters. So maybe global warming does play its part in altering permanent pressure systems, which in turn effects the chance of us receiving mild south westerly weather or cold north easterly weather. But I'm certainly no meteorologist!
One thing I do notice, is a lot of curling bothy's beside lochs and curling ponds in towns/cities from the 19th/early 20th centuries which have not been used for decades because the water has not froze over. The fact our great great grand parents could curl on 2ft of natural ice, every winter, shows just now we are going through a warm period overall?
All that aside, we are hardy northern Europeans so a mini ice age should be a walk in the park
