Hi All From The W.Mids

Post by Robin Hood »

Hello everyone, I'm starting to get prepared now, I'm seriously thinking of locating/building and stocking an outdoor venue in the event I/we have to abandon our homes, which is a strong possibility. My personal opinion is that in the worst case scenario and we are forced to leave our homes, then its best to have a Plan 'B' and some where to retreat to. I imagine many others have the same idea too, and i would be grateful for any advice and tips for this operation. I'm looking on starting after the New Year (all being well weather-wise) I know this is probably the worst month to start this, but my gut feeling tells me not to put this off for any longer. I've acquired most of the equipment needed over the past couple of months, but I am way off and would appreciate if someone could give me some advice on the most important things I'll need. Thanks for reading and i hope for all our sakes that none of it will ever be needed.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

You will find a varying mix of ideas here, many of us will be 'bugging in' for as long as possible, but then that does depend on what you are prepping for.

I, for one, prep for unemployment, ill health, bad weather, rising food and fuel prices etc. Zombies are far down on the list.

As I was driving in the really atrocious weather last night I did think who would really survive, living in the woodland, in this weather. Think about it! :|

Welcome! When you say outdoor venue, what kind of structure did you have in mind, I myself may or may not be looking into a similar venture.. Cheers!

Thanks for the welcome lads, I myself plan to bug in, in the event of a power failure/financial meltdown. But i want to have a plan B in place. I'm thinking of just prepping up a place to stock pile some supplies and make it habitable in-case the home no longer becomes available and has to be abandoned. I say this because I've been doing some research over the past 12 months and it seems a logical thing to do if your gonna prepare to Bug In. I live in a heavily populated area, and if water and food are removed, then diseases and desperate people will be rife around here, and the last thing i want is to become a prisoner in my own house. I would rather flee to a place of safety, than have to protect my well being and belongings and have to face the risk of being hurt or hurting someone else. Its all well and good saying Bug In, but as far as i know, I'm the only prepper in a 20 mile radius and if people get wind of that then I'm toast on day 2 lets face it people are kicking doors in for plasma telly's and car keys, so what do you thinks gonna occur if the SHTF. I'm prepped up to Bug In, but i also want a place to Bug Out if needs be, and i would rather get started on it now while the goings good. As i said before if it's never needed then all the better, But if it is then I'll be glad i made this choice now. I just looked around the site for some tips and i have to say this site is excellent, i have already wrote down around 20 items of importance that I'm going to purchase ASAP. I also wanted to throw an idea into the ring if it hasn't already been suggested, and that is, has anyone started a book club on here where we can acquire/give books? I know its not a life saver but it may help in passing the time when the days become restless from hunting squirrels and magpies  Joking aside I would still appreciate some good advice from anyone who has done any long term camping. Thanks again for reading and replying. All the best RH

Hey Lads/Lasses thanks for the welcome, I just read through a few threads and posts and the information shared here is of great value for most people, all though i do believe that most people prepare for such circumstances due to the fact our country is very poor at dealing with things like harsh weather, i.e Heavy Snow-Falls and Floods which the country has been getting now for years. IMO the average Joe stocks most supplies to get them through such events, and if they haven't then there neighbors will always help them out, as that is what makes this country so GREAT. Helping others in the face of adversity while others turn the other way Is a Great British trait passed down through the generations before us, proof of this is why we're one of the leading country's in raising charity for other country's that need it more than we do.

I myself am Prepared for events like these having been caught short on a number of occasions, and i know most of my friends do too, except for the ones that would like too but simply cannot afford to stock pile goods on there income, Even a few tins of food is hard to save for most people due to the fact, saving for a rainy day makes no sense when you and your family are going hungry now.

IMO if you asked any member of the public who didn't know what a Prepper was, they would reply "someone who prepares for a doomsday event" I say this because i tested this and asked 10 of my friends what they thought a prepper was? and all but one of them said "someone preparing for the end of the world"
I bring this up because i read one of the threads that did not agree with some people posting topics on such events, and I agree, that with out any evidence to support such an event, then it shouldn't be posted as there is to much of this already out there, but i also believe that people have a right to there own opinions and shouldn't be bracketed as a Conspiracy Nut Job for bringing up certain topics.
The polite thing to do, would be to give that person a warning as of not to air such an opinion here and then remove the Post in question. I can totally understand why other members would get cheesed off reading such posts, but I'm afraid when the site is called UK-Preppers.co.uk. then these are some of the opinions that are going to be expressed here. And I'm not knocking the name of the site just stating the obvious.
Maybe a tread dedicated to Conspiracy Theorists Opinions would stop people derailing other none topic posts, or put a big warning sign up on the home page that such opinions are not tolerated here. I know you have a thread warning members but that's not going to stop certain opinions being aired and I'm sure the Moderators time could be better spent than to go around chasing such posts to delete.

If someone is Preparing lunch then all meals should be considered, If someone doesn't like a certain meal then he/she has a choice not to eat it, but that meal shouldn't be scrapped from the menu, just placed in the not so tasty section if you get my meaning ;)

I hope this post doesn't offend anyone as that's not my intention, I'm here to learn and share like everyone else and paddle in the same direction.

And this is only my second post so be please gentle. :D

How do you know that for sure? I don't go round shouting that I'm a prepper and I'm sure others don't, so who would know? The other side of this is that there are many people who stock a bit extra, grow their own food, have some super skill sets but they don't call themselves preppers. However, they could be good people to know!

If you have any books you want to pass on then just post under general chat and other people can do the same.
HTH.

We did have a section for the way out/conspiracy theory stuff :tinfoil in the past but it attracted the worst of people so it was stopped. There are plenty of other forums out there that cover the conspiracy theory stuff and we don't need it hear.

Forum rules:

Just want to re-iterate this post. We need to sharpen up some of the inane rubbish we have had on this site recently.

The main forum rules are:

1. Keep it legal
2. Keep it prepping orientated
3. Keep it relevant and factual

HTH :D
