Hi all hope everyone is having a good winter season and hope everyone is looking forward to Christmas. As we are coming up to Christmas time were almost everyone uses the excuse "it's Christmas" to eat what they want. I got thinking about a lot of what I read on here and other sites about prepping. There's loads of tips and advice on food storage, weapons, equipment and very useful skills but I have found very little on the most important tool of all the body. So as we come up to the new year resolution. I think its important to take a little time to get yourself fit and strong. Because you can have all the best gadgets, tools and equipment but if you have a heart attack while carrying it it's not going to help you,
P.s you don't need a gym or lots of gym equipment or even a lot of space. Set of dumbbells/resident bands and enough space to fit you in it.
I hope this gets you thinking
Merry Christmas everyone.

Re: Just a thought
It was the Autumn when I started getting fit. Me being a scrawny thin person its quite hard, and having spent my time sitting on my bum to do my work I have lost a lot of basic strength. Doing exercise had helped me. I bought myself a cheap elliptical bike to help me and a set of dumbbells as a cheaper method than joining a gym. I might look out for a weight bench in the new year to make the dumbbell work easier and more all embracing.
I admit that I have slacked right off during December due to work and social commitments (and health, I have had a few bugs), but come January, I'm getting right back to it.
Apparently, exercise is the magic bullet to major disease prevention (presumably alongside looking after diet, nutrition and sleep).
Also, having tendon problems like me, an elliptical is better then running on any surface due to the lack of impact, and it sure has helped my calves look marginally more toned.

Hay nickdutch if you find it hard to gain mass or size you would be classed as an ectomorph which means your metabolic rate is very fast. So as a tip eat lots of food (good food) try to have protein and carbs and veg. Stay away from salads. Do more training with your dumbbells than cardio, as cardio will burn the gains from the weights. Remember if you eat 2000 calories and burn 2000 calories that leaves you 0 calories to build muscles, complex cards are better for you brown rice. Brown pasta. Anything hole grain. There are loads of workouts on YouTube that's will really help. I hope you find that helpful. If you have any questions you know where I am,
Keep up that great work soldier

I agree, however watch taking in too much protein, I used to body build and hammered the powders, and its actualy messed my kidneys up. For what we do, you need to also consentrate on core training; where your not necesarily big, but are powerful. So you can carry you BOB's and equipment without lactic acid build up. Running is also good exercise, as in a SHTF situation you may need to be able to run. Additionally running is benefial for our Hearts and Lungs.

When I said protein I didn't mean though shake I meant though Turkey chicken the real stuff. There are plenty of low impact high intensity programs you can do that build great lung capacity and strong heart. Not to mention your heart with get strong through the weight training. Personally I proffer strength training to body building as I have always done a form of martial art and now do Krav Maga. We have a saying there's a difference between gym muscles and cage muscles. But I agree core training to very important because your core joins the upper to the lower.
