Apps for Android smartphone
Apps for Android smartphone
I have been given one of these gadgets for Christmas - has anyone got some useful suggestions for apps?

Thanks, I will have a look for those - I have a 'e-voucher' to buy some odds and sods from Google Play. (I have no idea what any of that last statement means! I thought that I would just throw it in, in a vain attempt to sound as though I know what I am talking about!
I discovered over Christmas that I have become a technological dinosaur!)

Mr R, the term is "Neo-Luddite"
And as a fellow sufferer I just about understood your last statement.......I think
I believe there are appamebobs to identify plants, fungi and amimal tracks as well as maps and something like GPS (but not, as it uses triangulation on the transmitter towers rather then satellites)
Try to buy app-thingees that download onto your phone rather then ones that need to have an active signal, mobile networks can fail during an Event either due to damage, overload (as everyone and his dog tries to phone everyone else) or shutdown ('Somebody' pulls the plug
)
I don't have one, but herself does and it took her a while to get the hang of the touchscreen controls....... Things may vanish or refuse to work and the beastie will seem to have a mind of its own, but its a skill you will get better at through practice

Thank you for the information. I have downloaded a number of apps - mainly of the type that you have mentioned: plant / bird / tree reference 'books' for when I am out walking.
I fully agree with your second point and I do not intend to rely on this device in an emergency. It is a useful gadget, but I have more faith in my abilities than its battery life!
