This is quite a thought provoking topic. I'm lucky that my old man was a Jack of all trades and pretty good at all of them. I had to help with most of what he decided to take on and often times thought it punishment. In hindsight, he's taught me to see the solution to any problem, rather than dwelling on the problem, and to apply the solution in the most innovative way, a skill that's serving me very well in everything I decide to undertake in life. He's taught me that the best tools I have are my hands and my head, and he did so without ever saying it directly.

Being a leader for a group in times of trouble is a difficult task. The people that step up in this scenario will either genuinely care for the others around them or be the type that eventually becomes a dictator.

As for law, I think it's better if religion forms absolutely no part in it. Too many laws eventually make the system ineffective, we only really need 1 law: "Don't be an arsehole!" That covers pretty much every scenario :D

I like that, there are things which come with religion that are desirable like family values, work ethics, morals, although "Don't be an arsehole!" covers the latter and parts of the former(s)
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

Very Curious post , lots of very valid points for us all to consider.

Knowledge is power , consider night schools for short courses in some of the building trades , or if you know a person with skills you lack offer to assist them in turn for tuition.

As mentioned start this process now, rather than trying to pick up skills when its too late........

One thing I have learnt in life is "common sense , is not very common" , if you have common sense and a logical mind you can tackle most things.

In the beginning God bestowed onto thee one rule...

"Don't be an Arsehole!"

The end.

"If it harm none, do as thy will"
Although "Don't be an Arsehole!" pretty much covers it.

Of the Biblical Ten Comandments at least six of them are relievent in any society
5 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.
6 “You shall not murder.
7 “You shall not commit adultery.
8 “You shall not steal.
9 “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
10 “You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's.”
And one of them is a great idea.
4 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.
A continual grind of work will wear you down both physically and mentally, a day off (or more likely, a day of 'light duties' where you only do the minimum you have to) is good for your well being.

Sorry, what was the last one?

10 "You shall not embrace consumerism which persuades you to want what you don't need while destroying life's essentials."

I guess prepping means cutting down on luxuries to buy SHTF essentials.

I'd go for very very simple myself. Why have ten commandments when you only need one?

'' an' it harm none, do as ye will.''

There, covered :)

Define "harm none".

Take half a prepper's supplies "because he can afford it"?

Force yourself on a woman "because you can see she wants it really"?

Play loud music all night "so that all the neighbours can enjoy it too"?

Burn carbon fuels like there's no tomorrow "because it's good for the economy"?

Anything "harms none" if we have excuses we can accept.

Sorry, but no. There is a definition of harm. And it's not anywhere close to where you posted it. IN terms of a mantra to live your life by, the above comes from a specific set of beliefs and is designed to promote honest thought and a sense of duty when it comes to care for others.

Your reply is, quite deliberately, disingenuous and as such, not helpful in terms of a discussion.
