EDC GHB

I was having a review of my EDC GHB so I thought I'd take the opportunity to post it here. Mrs Briggs calls it my OCD bag but she can't talk, she has a near duplicate one in her car.

Work takes me all over the South, from Plymouth as far up country as the M25 so when I know I am going from zero to thirty miles from home, this bag is what I take. Over thirty miles and I would have my bigger 72hr/100 mile bag in the boot of the car. This smaller one is so I could comfortably get home on foot within 24hrs with what's always in the car and in this bag.

Quiqlite LED light attached by a lanyard to the bag, positioned so it shines into the smaller of the two compartments

I hate the term but it's a tactical pen with glass breaker
Heinnie Haynes mini knife, cord cutter and bottle opener on a neck lanyard
seatbelt cutter and window breaker on a s clip and length of cord
Odd lanyard that somehow comes in handy now and again
insulation tape and zip ties
Leatherman skeletool
Lighter and firemaking kit with obligatory pencil sharpener
fire strike with vaseline covered cotton wool in the top compartment
Two way radio and spare battery pack
Fleece hat
first aid kit with facemasks, blister pads, rubber gloves, pins, the usual stuff
Tub of assorted painkillers
Wet wipes
Alcohol hand cleanser
toothbrush and paste in brown tubs
Fishing hooks and line

The knives could be considered non-UK legal but the nature of my work means I have a genuine reason for having them in my day pack, where they are stored deep inside the main compartment.

Finally.....1 x black labrador. Get the bag out and he assumes we're going out, hence not moving more than one leg's length from it and refusing to get out of the photo

In the car, I have what most of us already have, water, jackets, fleece, boots etc, etc.

larger cable ties
boiled sweets
some form of small water filtration for this bag setup, my lifesaver and 58 pattern bottle filters are too big
Silva compass would be a good idea
I'd like a small solar charger for AA/AAA batteries
I don't smoke but I should carry a pack of cigarettes. They are the currency of addicts, you know

My EDC/GHB won't suit everyone because all of our needs are different but maybe you'll spot something here that could become part of your kit.

That's it, time to repack.

nice pile of kit Only thing i would suggest is replacing the milar blankets with something more robust small tare in them and a gust of wind and they usually shred

thats the smallest one they do it will fit in your palm....

but once unwrapped i doubt you will ever get it as small again


they do some slightly larger ones too such as the escape

I have heavier weight survival blankets in my larger 100+ mile pack and there is a reflective insulated blanket in the car kit. It's not possible to fit either of these in the MOAB10 and have space left over for a lunchbox!

Very tidy set up

I have a very similar bag for my EDC (what I would call a BOB), just right for carrying all the stuff you might need on a trek home.

6Kg give or take a bit depending on the food I'm taking that day, then add a kilo for each litre of water. It's just about right, weightwise to be comfortable. The pack is a slingpack design so easy to put on and take off.

No traditional MRE packs. I carry enough food to last 24hrs. There are 3 Peperami, a pack of beef jerky, peanuts and some sweets. With the energy drink powder I should be okay for a get home hike. In my other pack I have a solo stove and MREs but that's too much bulk and weight for this pack.

One bit of kit I really rate is the Quiqlite. Well worth checking out.

seen the MRE heater bags? got a few MRE's in my car and heater pouches

cant beat a warm meal when your freezing your nuts off

as for the emergency sol bivvy i think it takes up less room than 2 mylar pouches when i next end up with my bug out pack open i'll grab a decent picture of it in its pouch.


cut the toothbrush handle down or swap it for a "holiday brush" eg
