Food and fuel poverty approaching?
Re: Food and fuel poverty approaching?
On the jumper theme do any of the other woman notice that woman jumpers are not as warm as men's ? I found this out years ago when I nicked one of my brothers jumper and carried it on into my boyfriends jumpers. If I want to be warmer I just pop on a mans jumper in fact I convinced my mother to buy one and she finds it much warmer as well.

That might be due to the fact that so much of ladies clothing is for fashion and not for practicality. My sister came with us to my grandmothers 90th birthday party, she put on ladies fashion shoes to enter the restaurant and after the "do" changed back into trainers as her ladies fashion shoes were killing her.junmist wrote:On the jumper theme do any of the other woman notice that woman jumpers are not as warm as men's ? Unfortunately, the market has made a decision that ladies don't want to be warm, dry and comfortable and the markets are often thick as two short planks. On newyears of 12-13, I was being given a lift back by the vicar and her husband and we past some ladies out on the way to some younger persons bash and i remarked that the poor dears must be getting frightfully cold and that I thought myself more intelligent wearing my long johns. The vicars husband said with a cheeky smile that it might be considered the Christian thing to do to if we were to stop and pull over and I was to offer one of the ladies my long johns (which we obviously didn't do!), at which point I burst out in uncontrollable laugher that continued in silly giggles long into new years day.

Food prices went up last year.
Half the country's farm land appears to be underwater. What will food prices do this year?

SHTF around 2017.

I think the title of this post hits the spot for me & is exactly what I'm prepping for.
I work in the oil & gas industry, the recent floods compromised some of the gas storage facilities in the UK, the only saving grace is that it's relatively warm just now. As someone said in a previous post on this thread a lot of farmland is also flooded.....a perfect storm of flood effect on gas storage, cold temperatures & flooded farmland would mean a real tough period for many. This scenario will come.
Oil & gas (like land & water) is a finite resource, the price is only heading one way & it will get harder to obtain. Simple math states a growing population & a dwindling resource = trouble.

Yeah... That worries me, I hadn't thought of the Gas Supplies this winter. I suspect that if the farmland isn't plantable in time then things will become expensive next year and following.tigger159 wrote:I think the title of this post hits the spot for me & is exactly what I'm prepping for.

It will be quicker than a year if crops cannot be planted soon.
