Its the Sawyer Mini Water filter.

Good for 100,000 gallons (378,000 Litres) and with a smaller filter size, it excludes more (99.999999%) of the nasty stuff.

Standard issue for UK special forces and can be used as a straw; attached to bottles; attached inline on hydration packs etc...

http://sawyereurope.com/filters/biologic/sp128 £29.95 plus postage in the UK

BUT!!!

If you buy from Amazon.com (not .co.uk) you get a set of 4 for about £63.00 delivered - that's about £16.00 each, the same as the web tex straws.

Have a look at the customer feedback on amazon, and also for its bigger (more established) brother:

Well I can't speak for the others, but I am happy to switch to this product. Is someone orders enough and the divvies them up?

I may well do a side by side comparison anyway.

I'd be very interested in a Sawyer mini filter if there's a group buy going...

Does anyone know what the tax situation is with regards to buying from the US (amazon.com) ie: will we be stung for import tax or VAT etc???

Hi I have and have used these

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/370886731460

You can find them cheaper than this with a short ebay search but used this as it has some nice explanatory pictures
And I do like pictures!! :D
They take a while to deliver (from hong kong) but I have used straw type and found them inconvenient as I like to filter into a container and carry it with me for drinking and cooking with (I know a bit paranoid! Lol) did have thoughts of getting the little fuel syphons with the hand squeezer to use with survival straws but found this product a while back
Comes in a glasses case which is good as they are fairly fragile with the outer cxasing being plastic that said I haven't broke one yet ...? And I have used them vigorously .... For anyone wondering about the necessity of this product ... After immediate safety and warmth/shelter clean drinking water is a must .... And as for steritabs .... I used to use them years ago .......and unless things have changed ....ewwww they impart a rather unique taste which didn't suit my pallet lol
PS I haven't paid any taxes on anything ordered from overseas yet ....but perhaps with a bulk buy it might be worth our dear customs inspectors time?
I'm in area 1

Those solider filters have not got a great reputation and I wouldn't personally use them. Cheapest isn't always best, especially when it comes to things like your water supply. I want the best in this respect.

I was previously looking at a Katadyn Water Filter for use as my main filtration device, with the straws as backup in my GHB/BOB, but now I am happy to forget about both and just use the Sawyer mini filter which is a top quality product with a higher throughput, finer (absolute) filtration and a longer service life, as well as being cheaper than the Katadyn/Straw setup.

Now I am confused :(

Sawyer or Survivapure, Sawyer if we can get them for £16 a go. Survivapure if not?
