I use the military definition of Bugging Out, which is to have something always to hand that you can grab and which will be light enough to allow for fast and quiet movement away from an untenable situation. So it is also, for me, the same thing as an Every Day Carry or a Get Home bag. All different coloured ducks as far as I am concerned.
So, my bag is a Viper Recon Bag which has more than enough room for this stuff plus whatever else I have at the time - laptop, training materials, shopping etc etc. It is a great bag, they sell for 35 quid but are a proper working bit of kit with chunky zips and both chest and waist belts. It has space and holes for a water system and the various pockets are great for keeping everything tidy. I have given these away to loads of family and friends as well as sold a good few, they go down a storm!
In addition to the contents of the bag I also always carry a 3" locking knife with a part-serated blade. As well as a LED Lenser P7 torch.
In the bag I have:-
Empty aluminium water bottle (my home, work and car all have lots of bottled water that gets used and replaced all the time),
Microfleece towel (useful for all sorts of things including first aid and so light it is silly not to carry one),
Length of paracord tied in a braid and looped,
Mole-grip multitool and separate folding hand saw (neither are super-quality but good enough for a quick trek),
Clip on LED torch (not so bright as to attract attention or ruin night vision),
Headset for the radio, headset for my phone and sunglasses, notepad and pencil,
Boafeng two-way radio, pre-set with maritime, search and rescue, HAM, business radio and PMR frequencies,
Some sweets of some sort (lost count of the amount of times a quick sugar kick has helped),
Good old waterproof matches!
My car has a separate first aid kit and at home I have a very comprehensive one, either would warm the cockles of an A&E doctor.
I also generally wear clothes appropriate to the weather.
Things soon to be added....
Glass breaker and seatbelt cutter, alcohol gel, cotton wool, pencil sharpener, new charger for my phone (old one was not up to it), set of small reflective stickers for marking locations, Survivapure water straw.
On the nice to have list is...
Emberlit stove, a couple of tiny flash bangs, AAA battery pack for the radio.
Any suggestions would be most welcome, though remember this pack is designed to be light even when my day to day stuff is added to it.
I also have four separate locations with "stuff" squirrelled away.

We're so alike, we could be long-lost brothers
Glad to see you've got a pencil sharpener in there

Nice bag, I'm on the lookout for a new Laptop bag for work which will (natch) fit a lot more. You mentioned Laptop, do you reckon that'll hold a 15+ inch laptop?
And how the hell do you get the dog to fit?

I don't mean to walk all over Malthouse's thread but to answer your Q's, the MOAB10 will take my 15" Dell in the main compartment. It's a snug fit mind so I'd check before buying that yours will fit. Mine is a slingpack which I find a lot easier to get on and off. There's loads of reviews on the bag on Facetube, check 'em out. 5.11 MOAB10.mallie99 wrote:Nice bag, I'm on the lookout for a new Laptop bag for work which will (natch) fit a lot more. I sort of bought into the 5.11 system because the MOAB comes with 4 special clips that let you attach it to their Rush range of backpacks, making it modular, so for example, I've got my Rush 72 in the car and my MOAB10 on me as EDC, let's say I have to leave the car for whatever reason, I can clip one bag to another bag without any faffing about separating kit.
The dog isn't real, he's an inflatable guard dog
Here's my little OCD collection of bags that all clip together.

Re: My Bug Out Bag...
5.11 gear is nice, but I prefer Viper for value for money and anything will Molle compatible webbing will come together well. For example the holster for my Smith and Wesson will attach to any of my stuff either covertly or openly, given a specific "field trip" I could combine just the right bits for the perceived need.
Re: My Bug Out Bag...
Oh, if you're packing a handgun, you definitely need to check out the MOAB10's concealed compartment. lots of US Facetubers have posted vids on the subject. I don't have access to a handgun so I use mine for concealing chocolate Hobnobs.Malthouse wrote:5.11 gear is nice, but I prefer Viper for value for money and anything will Molle compatible webbing will come together well. I thought handguns were illegal in this country? I couldn't even find anywhere that will let you shoot them on a range.
