Seriously it's an air rifle which is spring powered, you have to operate a lever (often the barrel ) to compress the spring, which in turn when you pull the trigger releases compressing the air in the piston, driving the pellet through the barrel.
CO2 is a cartridge of said gas which looses a pre determined amount down the barrel.
Pre-charged has an integral tank of compressed air, which you have to fill, usually with a pump or divers bottle type arrangement.
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.
Jamie my advice for a newbie shooter is . Buy an accurate reliable gun and learn how to shoot it. Don't fall into the trap of all the gear no idea.
I recommend any of the Weihrauch HW range. Brand new prices start at £160 but there are some great secondhand bargains to be had. Great starter rifles and hold there money well.

This rifle would set you up well into the air gun world they are reliable and accurate.
Yeh, Weihrauch's are good quality solid guns....
Go for a rifle in which you can have a good laugh with and some 'plinking' around, but also one that you can take down small game with if the SHTF in a big way.

3" group at 25 yards either a poor marksman or gun either way he could not kill rabbits humanly at 25 yards with this set up.

There's always one busy body that brings up the 'rules' and spoils the fun isn't there? Obviously the Dragunov sniper rifle, the AK74 and the insanely awesome VEPR12 need some form of licence but if you take a look-see around the web, you'll find they sell air weapons that require no licence. There's no stopping you buying the very realistic AK74 BB gun and pretending it's a VEPR12 by pulling the trigger in synch with shouting bang several times. It's what I do

If you're going to visit a site like that, you have to imagine you're a James Bond Special Agent and envisage one of these when mother in law comes to tea though...
Not that killing her from a distance will solve any problems, mind you... But I'm still a 9-year old at heart who gets giddy at the sight of lethal precision shooting instruments (I can feel my SOH rolling her eyes already!)

Recent PMs aside, there is a training company that I use in the UK that offers tactical training using simulated weapons. Might make for an interesting weekend one day.
