When serious cold weather looms,the water is turned off and the whole lot drained. I also use an old fashioned paraffin 'outhouse' heater. Never had a problem at all. :D thanks anyway!
I changed all the batteries in our 'touch lights ', you know the ones, they stick on the wall or whatever. We do get the odd powercut-only brief usually. Those lights stop you from falling down the stairs though when it suddenly goes dark. I can recommend them as a cheap emergency lighting source. You won't read a book, but you can see to get around. And a damn sight safer than candles. 2 for a quid at the moment in Poundland.
