Just finished this book. A good read but without a doubt the darkest Post Apocolypse novel I have read, and I have read a lot. Out of the whole book I think the struggle for food was the most well written aspect.

Finished reading this yesterday (it took me a while to buy it cos I dont like to spend over a fiver on a book so had to wait til it came up cheaper on evilbay or amazon ). Very good read - but as has been said by another poster american books are a little gun heavy - having enough guns in a small town to raise an army is a light year away from what would be available in the small town I live in. But putting that point aside, the discussions about food, medicines and how quickly it would all fall apart were very well illustrated and some of the tougher choices made were heart breaking. Did bring a lump to my throat in parts - always a good sign that the author has hit a nail on its head. Would definitely recommend. :)

I have to say I found OSA a very engaging read because as a prepper you're basically using the book as a possible instruction manual as well! I've heard Forstchen on Coast-To-Coast a few times and he seems a very level headed man. Funnily enough, he relates a story where a high-ranking US military 'person', upon handing him back the manuscript for OSA, said that it was basically a factual report told in a fictional format! Eek!

I also liked Last Light more than I did it's sequel. Scarrow seems to take great joy in killing off characters you've just invested all this time in for no reason, but who am I to complain?

Clegg brought that book out a few years ago, 2007 initially, the 2013 is an update - it is an unfortunate title, 'global warming' - I read the initial reviews..like the biggest disaster was paying for the book! - if you follow the forum here and other related sites I am sure you will pick up much more useful tips....

I downloaded this book as an audio book off itunes about 12 months ago.

I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone. As someone who has kids. Some parts of it e were truly hart breaking,
But true to the point. This could very well be what some of us or people we know would have to face If the wheels fell off our way of life.
