Re: Fire proof document etc storage
I have a old safe from a post office (ebay is your friend) their rated for a long burn time and are normally under £100, although you need an engine crane to move them, lol.
Re: Fire proof document etc storage
I don't personly own one but i know my office has one. They 2 got it from staples and it's supposed to keep every thing safe in it to ridiculous temperature and if i remember correctly they got it for much less then £40 and it also got delivered (although it's not that big about the size of a gun cabinet).
Me all i am and all i want to be!

Not very long lasting, much better to have one that can be next to the bed to be grabbed on the way out.

Re: Fire proof document etc storage
Lots of options here! Thank you folks - I do have lots of things scanned onto my computer, though not everything, plus a little flash drive with the essentials on. A few bits on DVDs at my sister's too.
I've realised today that money's a bit tight, so for things that are irreplaceable (foreign deeds, I'm mostly thinking of, I might go with something from Staples. But great to have this here for information, ta muchly

Re: Fire proof document etc storage
Can you not keep them secure with your bank/building society, my house deeds are stored with the building society for free so long as I owe them £1 on the mortgage.Arzosah wrote:so for things that are irreplaceable (foreign deeds, I'm mostly thinking of

Re: Fire proof document etc storage
If you owe them a quid don't they still have a claim on your property? I considered that option when paying house off, chose to actually own my house outright - its mine mine mine so keep your greedy hands off bankers!
Re: Fire proof document etc storage
Not really, It's still mine, all mine but as it is only a pound which I could pay off in a jot, it does give me other options, like easy access to £20,000 for the next 10 years as that is how much I over-paid my monthly mortgage payments.Steve C wrote:If you owe them a quid don't they still have a claim on your property? Also it keeps my deeds safe, something which usually costs more than £1 a year, let alone 10+ years. It's using the system to my benefit not theirs
Just looked around and found that people are paying between £13 and £25 a year to keep deeds with their bank/building society.

Re: Fire proof document etc storage
I believe that deeds are irrelevant today, actually - the Land Registry operates electronically now, see this Guardian article:

Re: Fire proof document etc storage
They may keep some info on the title, but there are often a lot of other things involved than the basics that the Land registry have on record, some of the title deeds go back centuries and are historical documents of great value and amazing history to look throughArzosah wrote:I believe that deeds are irrelevant today, actually - the Land Registry operates electronically now, see this Guardian article:
