Claims oil free is 30% faster warm up, and uses 9% less energy. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002DGTMJE
Not as cheap, but they do work well. It has a few bad reviews, but they include such gems as 'I bought this as a travel heater to put in my suitcase, and it's too big'. A couple of people burned theirs out by leaving it set to maximum for many hours. And a couple carelessly broke the on off switch. I have three and never had an issue. They are suitable for a bit of extra warmth in a smallish room, not heating a big cold room. Put it this way, I have mine on a Tapo plug, set to 15 minutes. So obviously, 15 minutes is often all I need. And set to about 33%, it generally turns itself off before then anyway, with the thermostat. Typiclly, if left on without the Tapo, it would run for about 7 minutes, three times an hour.

 when our electric meter failed last winter and they said they'd base the time between it being reported and fixed (2 months later) on last year's period of usage I might have accomplished the feat you mentioned above  the gas boiler only run for hot water in that period

My current favourite heater is the far infrared panel heater to take the chill off in the lounge got a 400w versionbput it above the sofa and it gives a nice warmth akin to standing in a greenhouse on a spring day with the sun on the glass know jansman used to sing their praises

My gas was off for a few days at the start of last year, or the year before. I told the lodgers not to have it cranked up. Would have got expensive anyway. Also there's a risk of blowing the electrics if you start running appliances as well. These are pretty safe though, at 700 watt.

Right: not going to do fan heaters, and I'm in a Morrisons store desert, although I'm surrounded by Morrisons Daily (including at the end of my road, literally  ). So oil free radiator it is, seems fairly good ecologically too, though I'll check the precise type. I thought I'd go for Argos, but they're expensive, I think. Some checking to be done ...

They seem like they have ceramic plates, and I remember Jansman talking about them. "Leak free" was also mentioned on the website, which appeals. They're freestanding too, which appeals - in some ways, I like the sound of the wall-mounted one, but I'll never get round to it, or not until the next blue moon, anyway.

But hopefully, my ordinary heating will be on again tomorrow, and the immediate crisis averted 8-)

Mine saves me money. I only run the gas C/H until I'm close to budget, which is based on past use and the average temperature for the day. For example today is average 7° outside, so that allows me 32kWh gas. I'm up to 21 at the moment (15.20). I need to allow about 2 for washing up after my tea. So if it gets to about 28, I'll turn the CH off. Then, if I feel a bit cold later, I can run the Dimplex for about 8 minutes. That's often all I need. Tapo turns it off automatically, so I don't need to remember.

This is where you need to use your noggin.. average UK ringmain is fused at 35amp

Usual.cooker socket is 40amp

Household dno cutout often ranges between 60a old house and 100a newer homes...

Our house is well insulated so a 2kw oil filled radiator on the cooker circuit

A 2kw heater in the lounge on a radial and a 500w plug in fan heater in each of the 3 bed rooms before bed time on the ring hardly stretched the supply....

I've seen fuse boxes smoking due to panic heating

In My case 5500w is 24amp ISH spread across 3x different circuits......

Much the same as having the washing machine dishwasher and tumble dryer all on at the same time on the same circuit

Made a start on decluttering. Most junk now in the front living room. Prep room is much clearer. Emailed a local book shop to see if they want a pile of books. Put two containers of water in the front bedroom, plus exercise mat and dumbells. Few more books back on the book case in the living room. Got a load of old paperwork to sort and shred. Have put them in the front living room with the shredder, and a chair to sit on while I do it. Takes ages, because it jams up now and then. Some old bedding can go in general waste, but not til next week. Grey bin is pretty full with decorating waste. Got a couple of ads on Gumtree.
